Any lever action gunsmiths on here?
« on: January 10, 2013, 06:30:07 PM »
Any lever action gunsmiths here? I need to tear down a Browning 81. The hammer is dragging on the bolt. The gun had been disassembled twice in the past. I sent off for a Black T finish and when it came back the rack and pinion was off a tooth. Sent it back and they fixed it but about 30 rounds later the hammer is not staying down and dragging on the bolt teeth. I assume it's a simple detent spring but I'm not too eager to tear into it.

Anyone had the same issue?

Not familiar with that gun, but I'm told that Youtube has several answers for ANY problem with ANY gun.  Just go there and type in your gun and the problem you have, and SOMEBODY has the answer.  Maybe several answers--some good, some not so good.  Got to weed them out until you find a person you think knows what he's talking about....  Good luck!

That gun as much as I love them are a royal super pain in the buttocks...  I dissasembled mine in Gunsmithing school.. took me and and instructor over 6 hours to get it back together correctly and timed right.... find a good Browning smith.. lol
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.

Or, better yet--if they are that complex, send it back to Browning!  :chuckle:   Seriously, call them and see what they say.  Most gun manufacturers want to keep happy customers.  A guy I know bought a Ruger SAA in a private sale and didn't think it worked right.  He sent it back to Ruger and they took it apart twice, replaced parts, reblued it, and sent it back, and DIDN"T CHARGE HIM A DIME!  I guess you know he's a confirmed Ruger fan....

Thanks for the response. Yeah I have found a few videos and don't think I want to fool with it. I'm always up for challenge but not really interested in wasting a bunch of time on this only to take it to a professional. I was hope here was someone on HW that was really into the BLR's or felt comfortable working on them.

I'll give Bill Morrow a call.

Thanks to all!
