see no deer, see no sheds ?

I was just curious about something. We didn't see any deer and barely any sign of deer this past hunting season. Would that mean there most likely will not be sheds in that area? And really, we didn't even find sheds from the previous shedding season while hunting!

Was the area you were hunting a wintering area for deer? If so it is possible that deer will move into the area after hunting season........

One of my old favorite shedding grounds doesn't even have a track on it.  You have the basics, they have to be there for there to be sheds.

i am the furthest person from being an expert on finding sheds, but i am thinking if there arent any deer where your looking or hunting then its gonna be tough to find sheds, especially when it comes to blacktail and being on the westside, i dont think blackys move like muledeer, your in a great location though bensdaughter, if i was you i would start heading towards morton and find some new huntn spots, i know a few places that still hold some desent numbers and i still see alot of animals in there, i have been buying the hancock pass for the past few years and i dont hunt those places out there by you, if you ever have the time i could hook up with you and your dad and show you a couple places, maybe it will break your streak of eating tag soup  just pm me or whatever and i will help ya out

I usually find the bucks then look for there sheds. Watch em all winter and keep tabs on em. The thing is i still find no sheds!

   I think your on the right track... If talking BT if the sign isnt there, bucks and sheds are likely absent as well. The good news is you shouldnt have to look to far to find a place that holds deer. 

  BT shedding is tough, but very rewarding. Im no expert but a couple tips I may offer....  Although throughout most of their range BT dont "migrate" be prepared for them to move a bit from their "core" areas in search of prime food sources.

   I used to always hit the thick stuff, areas I had seen bucks in the fall. Bedding areas etc... and still do. But now I spend a good portion of time in the open as well, clearcuts with prime food and open fields. If I see good tracks entering these areas or even deer in the mornings or evenings, I make a point to search these areas well. Bucks are on their feet at night and drop horns then as well.... some of the best horns I have found were in the wide open where you would never expect to see a deer.... in the daylight.
