Layout Blinds

I've never used one before, but today I just got a great property to use one on. I would like it to be waterproof on the bottom at least. Do you guys have some suggestions before I just go out and wing it on a new one? :dunno:

Final Approach (FA brand) is my choice. I have a "Pro Guide," roomy, comfy but not waterproof. I also have an "Xlander" also by FA. Great for carring in a ways as it folds up and has back pack straps. However it is far less roomy than the Pro Guide. Cabelas and Wholesale Sports both usually have a few different brands on display for side by side comparison. I prefer FA as they seem to be most user friendly for my hunting needs. If I were hunting wet ground I would just wear my waders while laying in the blind. There are many types of pads you can buy to accomodate your butt while using layout blinds as well. Good luck, I hope you find one you like!

Hit up Cabela's.  They have one with a 10" rubber bottom that you can use in a few inches of water if need be.  It also folds in half with carry straps.  Don't recall the name on it, but you should see it if you stop in.

Cabelas Northern Flight Deluxe or Supreme or Super or Something like that.
I have one and wont look anywhere else.  The 10" rubber is awesome!  I have laid in water and stayed dry inside, besides what I bring in with my waders.  And what is better than a moveable cup holder to hold thermos lids because we all know everytime it's quiet and you pour a cup of coffee the birds show out of nowhere and you dont want to waist that lid full of black gold!

that sounds like the blind for you.  Cabelas outpost has/had them on sale last week for 189. smoking deal!  They actually had a deal on most all their waterfowl stuff.  We picked up 2 layouts and some full bodies. Saved us about 200 bucks off normal price.

Not to hijack the thread- but what good does the Neotub or Rubber bottom do for you? I know what they do, but how is it beneficial?Do you still have to wear waders? Seems that if you were set up in standing water everytime you got in or out you would be sloshing water in? I know I sometimes hate the fact that my blinds have a waterproof floor cause everytime I spill that aforementioned thermos of coffee it just stays puddled up and sloshing around the floor of the blind. One of those gifts that keep on giving. I do not set up or hunt areas that have standing water so I really don't know.
Anyhow, back on topic- I purchased a Tanglefree Deadzone this year to replace my FA blinds. I like it- roomy for sure. Easy set up, but not as quality materials as I had become accustomed to with the "older" FA stuff. I got it on sale at Cabelas for 149 with a snow cover. Pretty good deal.

I like the idea of a waterproof bottom so i don't have to pack the water weight out. But you have a valid point about getting crap inside it.

Go to your sink and fill it with 3 inches of water.  Take a cup taller than 3 inches and push it to the bottom with your hands, the inside stays dry.  Now take a pencil, eraser end down and move it back and forth from outside the cup in the water to inside the cup.  Yep, it gets wet, but no where near the water depth of the outside.  Now take a towel and place it on top of the water and press down the center.  It will fill and match the outside water depth.  Of course the inside of the rubber blind will get wet, but if you're smart and mind getting in and out most of the time, you are going to stay a ton dryer.  This also applies to wet fields, muddy areas and the like.
The rubber also makes a great insulater and wind block.
I have hunted both numerous times and will take the rubber bottom one everytime, no questions asked.

Cabelas Ultimate. Waterproof bathtub design and the largest, most comfortable backrest I've seen. Been using mine for 4 seasons now. I'll buy another just like it when I'm ready.
