Plunking with the kids
« on: January 13, 2013, 12:23:44 PM »
I'm a fly fishing, jig/bobber kind of steelheader, and have never tried plunking for them.  Now that I have two young kids, been wanting to take them out plunking, with a small fire to warm up on, and possibly cook on with the Dutch oven.  Any areas and techniques would be welcomed!  I had both kids down at the Cow last weekend, jig/bobber fishing, but I think we spent more time tying up than fishing.

Columbia this summer.  My kids love it.  Easy fishing and very seldom will you not get bit.

The big C is what I thought as well.  Anything this time of year?  Also, ways to rig them?  Pyramid sinkers, bait, etc?

I found a good place on the Wynoochee and there are plenty of room for the kids to mess around.  I am not sure that would too far for you to go.  PM me if you are interested.

Everyone had their own method.  Some guys use rocks when fishing the boulder areas. Cannon ball s or pyramids will work just fine in the sand.  Usually 4-8 oz depending on where and how much gear you throw out.  If you run a dropper.  Make sure it is shorter than your leader. I always fish a double rig.  Use a sturgeon slider between the two that I clip my weight in.  No dropper.
