Wader sizing
« on: January 14, 2013, 11:21:40 AM »
I am looking to buy my first set of chest waders, and I am not really sure how the sizing works. Also would I go up or down in my shoe size to ensure that the waders are comfortable.  Any tips and suggestions would be welcome, along with any places that have a good sale going on them currently ( a man can hope right lol).

I am in the tri-cties, haven't really found any stores carrying too many waders unfortunately.  I have been looking online and half the reviews say their oversized, and the other half will say undersized.

:yeah: Except if you hunt really cold weather.......than get the same size so you can put some extra wool socks on  :chuckle:

brand to brand they are all sized different just as peoples bodies are sized different. there is no golden rule to wader fit besides just going to a store and trying some on.

personally I like breathable waders over neoprene by a mile. you can wear them in the early season without sweating to death, just ad some warmer under layers and your good to go for the harshest late season conditions.

if you do any amount of hiking into your hunting spot breathables and comfortable wading shoe are the way to go. if all you do hop in a boat and never break a sweat neoprenes would serve you well.

Wholesale Sports carries them in Tri-Cities.  You could also do a drive up to Spokane and cross over to the Cabela's in Idaho.  They have lots to choose from.  I would not size up in waders as you will get heel rub and it will work your socks down if you walk any distance, given you have boot foot waders.  If you have the stocking foot ones you can do as you please.  I typically wear a 11-1/2 and use a size 11 wader.  Definately go and try them on.  If you sweat easy and are fairly comfortable in cold temps a 5mm may cook you and 3mm or breathable waders may be an option and just layer under neath.  Different brands also fit differently.

Cabelas supermag 1600 's are great. they run a size big though. Warm enough that they keep heat in when the outside is icing up.

Thanks for all the help guys, i will def check out Wholesale sports.  Altho lately I have come upon another equipment question.  Gloves, I am looking for a pair that will keep my hands warm but thin enough that I can reload with. I am testing out pair 3 and yet no luck.

Most wader boots run a size big.
I'm a pretty big guy... When I bought a pair of chest waders from cabelas in a boot size 15, I was sceptical at first.
But they fit great, with tons of room for extra socks. Mind you, I wear a 16-18 normally.
Same should apply to normal people's sizes as well.

Isn't there a Cabela's in Union Gap now?
Take 2 pair of heavy socks and go try'em on.
Spent most of my $$ on huntin, fishin & retrievin dogs, the rest I just pretty much wasted.
