Just remember those are not allowed on groomed trails, both state and federal land!! You may be wasting money if all you can do is drive around the yard.

Any road or trail in this case that is maintanied by a Groomer (see photo) is closed to all motorized vehicles except snowmobiles as seen here http://apps.leg.wa.gov/wac/default.aspx?cite=332-52-420

The definition of a snowmobile can be found here http://apps.leg.wa.gov/wac/default.aspx?cite=332-52-010

Also it appears that the roads you mentioned are part of the grooming program which can be found here http://www.parks.wa.gov/winter/trails/?TrailType=motorized&Region=3.

Here is a pic from the inside of a snow cat while grooming up by Price Creek.

doesnt make sense to me as to why a snow cat wouldnt be aloud on some of those trails ? it is a snow machine by all means ( i guess i will be doing some calling around to find out some more info. , either way i could use this in other places other than those areas .

They don't want some slow moving peice of machine out farting around on trails where snowmobiles are running 100 mph

groomers gotta groom during off times and run lights and most put up signs warning grooming is going on, they usually groom in the middle of the night and off the trails by 8am

also they don't want people putting ruts in the fresh groomed trails

I don't have a problem with it myself, but there it is.

What kind of prices do these go for typically?  I've always wanted one (don't know what I'd do with it).

depends on condition seen them as low as 2k to as high as 60k , with 2k needing work and 60k being top dog

I'd to sledding parties, load up the kids and toboggans and light a bon fire and ferry sledders to the top.

sounds hella fun to me

I gave you the links to the WAC's that state what is and is not allowed on snow n state and federal land. Phone calls will only get you the same answer, but Cle Elum ranger districts number is 852-1100. There is also a page that has the definition of a snowmobile (must have skies in front). Not sure if DNR can answer questions about that, but you could call state parks. State parks is who is in chargeof the grooming program. Have you looked into the cost or availability of parts for this rig?

what parts lol its just a basic engine and transmission out of a ford , the only real thing i think i would be pressed with is the tracks but i dont think the tracks would be that big of a deal either

i saw the part about the "skis" , kind of stupid in my opinion as snow cats are strictly snow machines so why would it be such a big deal i understand they may be a little slow compared to snomobiles , i thought green dot roads are open to "all" motorized vehicles so what makes it any different if there is snow on the ground or not ....
