Too bad its not actually a 17HMR.  It has a bigger case.  Time to buy a new gun.

Ya, I think I will just stick with the HMR for now. The new Win cartridge would be a lot of fun!

It's called a 17 WSM and the guns are supposed to hit the market in May or June.  The ammo is supposed to be available about a mouth before the guns arrive.  So says my sources.  The ammo is going to cost about $15-$18 a box of 50.

I think it was Remington that came out with a rimfire cartridge called the 5mm.  It was a screamer, and if the .17 is like that cartridge necked down, it will really be a screamer!  I think the 5mm was the first round to be designated in millimeters, and enough people were leary of it for that reason, and it never caught on.  I think you could reload .17 Hornet brass and probably shoot cheaper than the rimfire ammo will be.  :twocents:
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

People were leary of it because remington put into a P.O.S. gun.  If it would have been in a more solid action it would have done better.

Yeah, probably that too.  Century still makes ammo for it,  and I met a guy that had one a while back.  He loved it.  :dunno:

My dad has one.  The quality is not even the quality of basic savage or marlin 17 hmr.  The extractor on those guns commonly broke.

Apparently the case is based off of a 27 caliber nail gun blank. Sounds interesting...

From what I read it is a standard 17 hmr just juiced up
Do not know where your info on a larger case came from.
Sounds like the round will be on sale in the next couple months.

I was at a show last weak. Savage had a prototype of the gun and Winchester had some dummy rounds for the gun.  I ordered both of them.

I'm definitely going to get one for Rockchucks!

“This is not jut a hotter loaded .17 HMR,” Brad said as we drove out to my local range. To prove his point he handed me both an HMR and the new .17 Win. Super Mag. Side by side it was easy to see the difference; it was like comparing a .30-06 to a .300 Winchester Magnum…which in a way is not a bad analogy, just on a smaller scale. “We have a power fastener division of the company…you know, they make cartridges for power nail guns and such. Well, we based this case off of the .27-caliber power fastener case. It gives us more case capacity, can handle higher pressures and ultimately more velocity. Lots more velocity."

450fps more is a truck load when your comparing one .17 Rimfire to another!

There's an article on the 17WSM in the February issue of Outdoor Life.
Friend: "Are you free tonight?"
Me:  (Gazing into the distance as a bald eagle screeches)  "I'm always free"

Got a look at the new Win rimfire 17 today at the SHOT show.  If they keep the ammo cost reasonable and a mid price rifle chambered in it, I'll buy one for sure. I'll post up pictures when I get back.

I have killed the crap out of varmints with a .22 Magnum prior to me purchasing the .17 HMR when it first came out.  The .17 Win Winchester Super Mag , leaves the .22 Mag in the dust across the board. I like that, I had already sold my .17 HMR stuff and just stuck with the .22 Mag for bare minimum on Rockchucks and point blank Coyotes.
