New Hunter Looking for Help
« on: January 15, 2013, 07:47:45 PM »
Hello everyone, I am a newer bow hunter, I have only been hunting for a couple of years and have been fortunate to shoot a bear and a wild hog but not a deer yet. I did not have the good fortune to grow up in a hunting household so I am more or less learning it on my own and by reading on the internet. I would love to just be able to spend some time early this year just asking some questions about blacktail habits, and how to setup for my hunt. Also I would be interested to hear if I should maybe look for opportunities for on the east side instead of continuing to hunt black tail. Anyway if there is anyone out there who would like to help a new hunter learn I would appreciate the help.

Thanks,

ask away
I kill elk and eat elk, when I'm not, I'm thinking about killing elk and eating elk.

It doesn't matter what you think...

Nothing will help you get a blacktail better than spending as much time in the woods as possible.

I also did not grow up in an active hunting family. People can give you all the advice in the world and it wont help you nearly as much as just spending time in the field.

Thanks Sundance this is really helpful, the truth is I have spent a lot of time in the woods over the last couple of years but they are some basic questions I feel like I need to have answered about behavior, feeding, bedding etc. I am going to read the books you mentioned and I may shoot some more questions your way as well. I am interested to know where you place the cob? Do you put it in the meadow, or on a trail in the woods? I have a trail camera and I have had a few photos but have never been able to see deer multiple times/days in the same location. Anyway thanks for your reply, I appreciate the time you took and I will check out these books right away. Thanks!
