« on: January 17, 2013, 07:48:00 AM »
Newer Modern Hunter.....I am looking at updating a scope I have.Don't know the model, think it's a Bushnell.Anyways, I have a .270 Short mag Remington.I hunt mainly deer in Eastern Wa. on opened up land. I want a biiger scope to see out 300yrds or more. I know it's a long shot but it's doable.Anyway my budget is about 200-250 max.Any help, suggestions would be great.

What magnification is currently on your rifle?

I personally think most guys get too hung up on needing a huge scope for their rifle.

The largest scope I currently own is a 2-7x33. I don't shoot at game this far,but I've ranged deer at 500yds and for my eyes,7x would be plenty.

see this is the stuff I need to find out about.I bought a cabelas special scope/rifle combo for 399.I like the rifle does what I need, just want to be able to scope out farther and get shots out at 300yds.Last year we were into a butt load of deer and they were out 200-250yrds.Couldn't pick out the bucks until they crested the hill after shooting hours.A little frustrating

Are you searching for deer through your scope?  You really should have a very good set of bino's to prevent a mistake in counting points.  :twocents:

My wife's '06 has a Leupold 4x on it, and I've shot critters at 300 yards with it.  I would think a 3-9 is plenty.  Get good binos and use them.

I recommend the Leupold VX II in a 3-9x40.

http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item.asp?sku=00024110796

It's slightly over your budget at $271, but you'll never need to buy another scope for the rest of your life, unless you just want to.

This scope is the equivalent of the old Vari X III, which is what I have in a 3.5-10x40, and my scope used to sell for around $450.

The VX II at $271 is a bargain. Just a great scope for the money, AND it's made in the USA! You just can't beat it.

I really like the Burris Fullfield II, 3x9.  I put one on a .30-06 10yrs ago (loved it).  2 years ago I bought another new Fullfield II, 3x9 to put on my Kimber .300 WSM.  I love the glass for the price ($210?).  I compared it side by side to the Leupold VX 3x9, and couldn't tell any difference.

I like to plink the .300wsm out to 500yrds (about the max for me due to magnification accuracy).  But I am very confident at shooting at big game out to 350yrds with the 3x9.

I also have a Burris Fullfield II in a 3-9. Good scope for the money. You can find them sometimes for as low as $150.

By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Loopy II or a Nikon.  I run Leupold on all but one of my hunting rifles.  You definitely want the best glass on your gun that you can afford.  If you can't see your target, you can't shoot it.  :twocents:

:yeah:  This is probably the best option for what you want to do.  I've seen the new Redfields.  Looks like Leupold quality without the Leupold price, and well within your budget.  Check out www.natchezss.com

I've ordered quite a few scopes from them.  No problems.

Check out Bobcat's site, too--Midsouth Shooters Supply.  I've ordered stuff from them, too.  Good company!
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.
