Awesome wolf. I can say if you take a wolf with the long hair they really look huge. But When I get a lifesize form in the look more  like a grey hound without the hide on the form. Long and tall but not as big around as you would think.

120 lbs most likely. Wolves are decieving in their size compared to their body weight. The larger ones I've held were back legs touching the ground and head over my shoulder and I'm 6'0". They look 3X the size of my black lab male who is 80 lbs and their heads/skulls were at least twice the size of a domestic dog. The largest ID wolf I saw on the scale was 123lbs and the largest AK wolf was 130ish. They look big and are very big, but lean muscle build for running so the weight isnt there. Still amazing animals and a little scary when you come up on them.

X2.  The one we killed last year dwarfed my buds 80 lb lab but only weighed in around 95 lbs...

The research I found online says the biggest ever killed in North America was 175 lb. And I have a 120 lb golden retriever and that looks considerably bigger than my dog.

In the fall 09 issue of Big Buck mag there is an article about a 197lb wolf killed in Alberta by a guy named Jim Johnston. There was a thread about it on here.

I do not believe those stories.  If there was a 182, 197 or 230 pound wolf taken, there would be a AP story quoting a Warden or biologist with a State, Federal, Provincial or University.  These are all internet word of mouth stories with zero official verification.

A wolf 25 pounds heavier than the previous record is a big deal.

The worlds biggest wolf was taken in Alaska in the 1930's, qand weighed 175 pounds.

That's the most well travelled wolf that ever lived.

Not only has it been in Alberta, but it was also sighted in British Columbia, Manitoba, Idaho, and Montana.

My brother in law from Minnesota sent me this picture.  It was killed near Cook, Minnesota.  I didn't know Wolf's got this big.  He told me that the Picture is legit.  Thought I would share it with those that haven't seen it yet.

I was sent the same thing but said it was from Wisconsin  :chuckle: Who really knows anymore

Nobody really knows what the biggest wolf killed is.  All those trappers in Canada and Alaska don't bother to drag them back to camp and weigh them.  They just skin them.  they are miles from electricity and could care less about beating some record.  Would you drag a stinken carcass miles through the snow to weigh it?  All you get paid for is the pelt and all the attaboys in the world won't buy a loaf of bread.  We killed a bear back in 1975 that weighed 590 lbs. (we weighed it).   Still have a picture of it and it only got in the local paper and they didn't have google or anything to keep it on record back then.  Most of the weights you see are guesstimates I believe.  These guys are right in that a wolf has long hair and his carcass looks like a greyhound, very skinney and lankey.

Anyone think to check his stomach? See what kind of diet he consisted of? If I ever got me a wolf that large, obviously not in this state because theyre protected but, I wouldnt help but want to see what he was eating to be able to get to such a size.

Im going to make a new thread and relate it to this. Because Ive got an interesting question.

It is a good photo-shop job.... it started making it's rounds last fall.

Wolf face blown up and morphed onto the body of a bear.

Another link to it was at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Stockbridge-Saloon/170623673463
