I shot 30" draw. On the draw board my bow is about 30.5 " . The biggest thing with any bow is placement of the shot not the energy

Thanks guys!

Well, I care about my KE because Im going on a Moose Hunt this Sept. Super tough thick hide and bone. I want to hit that sucker as hard as possible to ensure my shot goes into the vitals.

And OF COURSE "shot placement" above all is key. That being said, if I can tweak the bow to its maximum energy without compromising comfort and accuracy; that's the goal

:yeah:

That's what radsav was saying.  KE is not really relevant and is only used to sell equipment

Good for Dwight. To each his own. It may not be "needed" but Ill take the extra energy as long as it does not compromise accuracy or comfort. I mean hell.. all else being equal.. getting that extra energy to ensure the arrow travels hard and through an animal, Ill take it.  8)

Momentum and FOC are more important than KE.  So, I shoot 300 spine shafts, a heavy BH (150gr) and brass insert to help w/FOC.  My FOC is approx 18%  My arrow weight is 500gr and speed out of two of my bows is 286 (Hoyt Trykon XL) and 308 (Mathews Monster), both set at approx 70lbs.  KE is 90 and 105ft-lbs, with momentum of 0.6 to 0.68, respectively.  My draw length is 31.5.

Another very good reason to shoot as heavy an arrow as you can and still get acceptable flight (i.e., not a rainbow arc) is that as arrow weight is increased, the bow is able to transfer a higher percentage of its stored energy (potential energy) into the arrow (i.e. much more efficient). Less of the bow’s energy is converted into wasted energy (like vibration of limbs, riser and string).  Your bow will be quieter and smoother to shoot!

Also, the more FOC you have, the faster an arrow will stabilize after it leaves the bow, plus it will penetrate the target better as the having the weight forward on the shaft will cause less lost energy on impact and will actually help guide or pull the arrow thru the animal.

2012 Mathews Heli'm, 30" draw, 70lbs, Axis 340, 125 grain Shuttel T, at 290, around 80lbs ke.  I love high KE, especially when my arrow blows right through my buck at 26 yards and sticks in the ground 8" makeing two nice holes on each side....= dead buck in 40 yards!

Speed isn't inportant to me. I shoot the Mathews Rivel Pro and have the Mathews Reison ( which the grandson has taken over shooting) The Rivel Pro is very comfortable for me to shoot and acurate. It shoots 230 at 50 lbs, at 27 inch draw.
