Best of both worlds would be the 7mm-08, same case (.308) as the .243 but a little bit larger bullet. :twocents:
I have to agree 100% ...it took me awhile to buy a 7mm-O8 but once I did and seen how it performed I am hooked for sure
great choice as well as the 25.06

I am a 25 cal lover, but the 06 requires a long barrel that kids may not like, if you shorten it up....LOUD and muzzle blasty.

I REALLY like the 7mm-08. Nothing wrong with a 243 either.

Trajectory favors the 243 and it is gonna be more than plenty for our critters to a range you would not let your kids shoot. If you want something not so flat....260 fo sho.

243 is just fine for deer. My instructor at guide school has the #6 B-C all time record for grizzly bear. Shot and killed with one shot from a 243, Behind the ear, 100gr bullet. His 30'06 was broke. Devil's Tower, AK.

you will be fine, just keep the shots under 700 yards....

 :yike:   :bdid:

I'd say 300 yards would be a good maximum range for the 243.

MAYBE 400 yards if you're really good.
:yeah: I would keep it to a max of 300 yard. I uses 100gn SP in my loads Drops them dead. Good luck

All I use for deer is 243. never had one go more than 40 yards and most where dead on the spot. My deer round is a 95g nosler bt @2710fps

Think it'll work? What grain bullet? I've heard mixed reviews. Whatda think?

Both my brothers shot their first elk with a 243. I shot my first two elk with the very similar .250/3000 or .250 Savage.

GreyBull Precision Long Range HuntingThe 243 can knock em down if you put the bullet where it belongs.

That's a sweet video. Thanks for posting.
Also, those scopes look like they get the job done well too. I need to upgrade.  :chuckle:
