Polar bear in Barrow, AK
« on: January 18, 2013, 07:41:51 PM »
This polar bear got a little too close to town last week. A couple locals (Inupiaq) went out on a snow machine and shot it t close range. Notice no scoope. It was only a couple hundred yards from town at the time.
It was a smallish one at 8.5'
They wouldn't allow us to take pictures. They did email us thier approved pics.

Definately see some things up here that I will NEVER see anywhere else.

The hides sale for between $3-5k on average up here.  Depends on size mainly.  A pair of mittens made of polar bear go $1, 000

Damn big exit wound... wow!
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Looks like an 88 Winchester!  .243, 308, 284 or 358.  I'd guess .243 or .308 :dunno:

Very Cool and thanks for the post.  I'm pretty sure you cannot hunt or posess any polar bear in the U.S. c/o the Marrine Mammal Protection act or the CITES agreement or a combination of both.   I imagine it is a different deal for the Natives and/or DLP circumstances.
