Cougar kill
«
on:
August 30, 2008, 08:08:52 AM »
Well, last weekend I took my wife and kids up in the hills looking for elk/deer/etc. We saw a lot of elk and a few deer. On the way down the mountain we saw a large cougar run in front of us in the dark. It was really cool and my wife and kids first cougar sighting. Well, I went up there last night to scout some more and looked around where we saw the cougar. This is what I found just about 50 yds below the road where we the the cougar.

The elk appeared to be a spike.
One less legal bull. Back up by my truck I found his tracks. They were pretty fresh and but the kill is not so I'm thinking this is where he crosses the road to and from his hunting grounds?

I'm not really good at judging exact size since I don't have much experience with cougars but from all the pics/videos I've seen I would say above average for a cougar. The tracks were pretty good sized too. Somewhere in the range of this cat.

I should have put something next to the tracks to gauge the size.
Oh well, next time.

We, WIFEY and I were hunting by Mt. Adams for archery deer and elk. She went up to a tree stand overlooking a little valley early evening. I went to an area about 10 miles away with my hunting buddy. At 6pm she heard hissing and screaming about 30 yards above her stand. It almost sounded like a deer blowing then turned to screaming/roaring (she said) A couple minuends later it was right behind her stand up the hill about 10 yards. She wasn't sure what it was till it went MEOW. So she lip squeaked a distress call and got her bow ready. When it walked down the trail she shot it at 5 yards! 6'2" female cougar!
I'd send a picture but don't know how to attach it?

A COUGAR AT 5 YDS your wife is one cool cat. I'll tell you I'd be doing alot of things 5 yards from a big cat one of which might be getting cat scratch fever.
