ffl question
« on: January 22, 2013, 09:02:24 PM »
Looking for some advice from those who deal in this business more than I do.  When selling a firearm from Wa to another state, what fees are involved on the seller ? I tried to find info on this online, but you can imagine all the junk one has to sift through.

The buyer receiving the gun would need to pay someone with a FFL a fee for receiving the gun and doing the background check and paperwork.

The buyer normally is expected to pay the cost of shipping as well.

Shipping is probably going to be near $50, including insurance.

Shipping to the buyer is typically $30, plus would be required to pay transfer fee ($25-$45 typically) and pay recieving cities sales tax. Transferor is required to pay nothing extra.

That is insured to a base rate of $1,000 coverage. More coverage will be extra.

You would be surprised at how many people will let "Free Shipping" determine whether they will purchase one item over another, it really does work.

I have been doing ebay for several years and see this alot.   For example, I posted an ithem for $8.99 with $6.35 (I believe that was the Priority, Flat-rate cost at the time) shipping charges, and had several people look at it but no bids.

As soon as the auction ended, I relisted it at $19.99, on a "buy it now" option with free shipping and it didn't stay active for more than a few hours before it was sold.
It is better to be consistently incorrect than inconsistently correct...
