I love the rifle man, a little steep for me on the glass, but then again I've never seen that brand.  Did you consider Burris or Millet's when making your decision?  I might be a cheap ass, donno but I've never had a problem with either.  What's your opinion on either?  I'll get some pictures of mine as soon as I have the bedding done on the new stock I bought.

JoshT, I would just save your breath . . . there are some obvious "haters" on the site.

But I am curious where the "hunt" comes in?  It seems to me that "spot and stock" turns into "spot and snipe".  I don't see where this takes any woodsmanship skills.  And I really don't think it helps our cause as hunters.  Seems this type of hunting only gives the antis ammunition against us.

And what does it matter if he's just another hunter filling his freezer?

I think it's funny most of you say you don't hunt for the "sport" of it, however everybody who dislikes long range shooting always uses the same excuses.  Also, could you please define "woodsmanship skills"??  Because I'm taking it as your'e saying in the event we shoot from 500m to a klick and a half it doesn't involve any movement or stalking skills?  Crawl 4km to make a shot then come back and tell me this again.

I can understand if you're simply dismissing a long range shooter as somebody who stops their Chevy, props their 15 pound beast across the hood.  Then whacks a buck from 700 meters, totally agree with you in that aspect.  I consider it to be a bit unethical, but hey... the guy filled his freezer didn't he?

Ghost, the NF was supposed to be the best and I had the $$$, so I bought it.  It is an amazingly precise instrument and I am very happy with it.  It is my third NF scope and they have all been outstanding.  I also have Leupold Tactical 6.5-20x50, 6.5-20x50 L.R., 8.5-25x50 L.R.......They are all awesome and get the job done!  I have no experience with the Millet/Burris, but I am sure they work as well.  The one downside is the weight, they are very heavy.  For my medium weight varmint rifles I use the Leupold LR scopes, for my LW hunting rifles I use Swarovski 4-12x50 and 6-18x50.

How do those optics perform under low light conditions?  Do you loose much at the higher settings?

I haven't tried them in low light situations?  They are extremely bright and clear during the day.   The 5.5-22 is exceptional at all power settings.  My eyes cannot distinguish the difference between 5.5 and 22?  Head and shoulders over my Leupold LR 8.5-25x50.  I haven't compared with Swarovski - clear is clear.  If I can see, I am happy.  I have used my 8-32x56 quite a bit and it is a also a great scope.  They are worth every penny in my estimation.  The weight is pretty substantial, though.  Again, the one downside that I see.  I bought it because they are the toughest scopes made and their tracking is flawless.

Public forum.  I offered a civil response.  You didn't.  Get used to it.

Yea, I went to a Millet.  Had a Burris 8-32x50 on my 700 however I don't like the fine plex.  I'll look into them, never hurts to try new things.  What do you use for your varmint rifle?

I have a 6.5-20 and 8.5-25 Leupold LR on my varmint rifles.  Also have a fixed 12x Leupold.

Ouch, I guess I felt like I just didn't get my point across because I didn't say everything I was thinking, was never trying to come in at a negative angle, I tried to state that several times. Your correct, the Mexico post was suppose to be a joke, shouldn't have posted that. I figured everyone knew it wasn't like that, there is no such thing as an easy giant mule deer. Best of luck in your out of state adventures, I'm jealous. I have only been able to hunt in WA cant afford out of state stuff. So since I have never even been to Colorado I now have no opinion on your gun besides that I would have a blast with it on the range. Good luck on your hunt next year.
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

Not too worried about it Teacher, I am pretty easy going.  The post was just going south for awhile, didn't want it to turn into that, just wanted to talk about one of my new rifles and let folks know what was working for me.   Regardless of who hunts where - you have made the most of your hunting opportunities by already killing a one-in-a-lifetime buck.  I don't want any feuds, especially with a whitetail expert from up north.  Those are the kinds of guys you want to make friends with, not piss off!   Now, if we could only fast forward 8 months........:chuckle: :chuckle:

Man I can't believe all the people that say things negative about subjects they don't know much about.  :bdid: There are plenty of things that I read on this forum that I don't agree with and I don't see any need to post on those threads. It is very obvious that JJ knows a bit about hunting and long range shooting and I don't see a reason for anyone to question him the way some guys are. Also for those that don't know what a nightforce scope is get on any long range shooting site and you will soon see that they are one of the best scopes out there. JJ lets see that old 30.06 now :chuckle: I sure hope you don't have more then a 4x scope on it

It hasn't been put in the regs yet for 101  :chuckle: If it does I would be more than willing to help someone out with there first WT buck. I just want summer to get here so I can start scouting and getting trail camera picks. I hope that's not a once in a lifetime buck. My goal is to break into the 200's  :chuckle: I've taken 6 over 150 in this area in the last decade.

You think that gun would be good to use in country that looks like this  :chuckle:

...Agree or disagree, we need to accept our differences and stand together.

Well spoken, sir.

Hows that thing treating you? How many rounds do you have through it so far? Have only seen a NF once in person at Sportsman's Warehouse. Glass looked great, but heavy. Heard nothing but positive things about them though.

Teacher, nice looking country in that photo!
