One of the few bucks I'v eactually got to within bow range on out there.

That's somewhat small for out there isn't it. I've heard of some really big bucks out there.

Depends on the age...there seems to be a trend of the smaller bucks getting all the breeding, since we've killed quite a few of the bigger ones off.

I have the opinion that we should take some smaller ones that geneticaly don't have the ability to pass on genes that contribute to larger racks.

And hell man, its Bowhunting! To get close it takes work, and those pics look like he got close.

There are definately bigger ones out there.  They don't tend to let you neak up on them very easily.  Here is Fletch's brothers buck from out there.  He's a good represenative.

Great pics!  That first buck is awesome.  I'm surprised he is so dark horned.  I wonder what he was rubbing outt here to do  that.  You are going to make me dig through my shed pile.  I have one I picked up 2 years ago that has his genetic traits.  Curios now.  I've logged alot of frickin miles out there for VERY few sheds.  Fun to stretch the legs though, and nuke a coyote or two.  Again, thanks for the pics!

I drew the Desert Archery tag a couple of years ago.  I saw some great bucks.  Ended up holding out for a big one and ate my tag.  That is why its hunting and not shooting.

This is my son's Desert F buck, his first.



We hunted a dandy 28" heavy typical 4 point that was in with a herd of 14 bucks but he never got to burn any blackpowder at him. This was a september hunt with temperature highs in the high 90's. The best bucks were nocturnal. We still saw 40-50 bucks in 6 days of hunting. There are toads on the Desert.

Great first buck!! Always fun when youj see lots of ctitters.You are right, the bucks are very nocturnal is september. In fact they are pretty much nocturnal until November. If you are serious about a big one you have to spend alot of time kicking the cattails, and even then they won't move most of the time.

there is way more to a trophy then size. I have shot quite a few nice critters in my tima and am more proud of a 150" deer I killed after two days of watching him service the ladies, then I am of a 168" buck that stood on the side of the road long enough to stop the rig get out load a round and shoot.....all in the memories.

anyone who grades you on the size of animals you take aint worth a hoot. many guy shoot stupid big animals in pens with stupid big fences.....again, ain't worth the powder to blow them to the moon.

have a good hunt and remember to enjoy yourself, then if you thump a hog you will be oh so happy.

My dad drew the desert in 2004 and had a great hunt! Saw lots of decent bucks and it was convenient since we live a hundred yards from the unit.  Wastickslinger that buck u picked the sheds up from looks real familiar, might have spotted him a couple times when I was out shooting some yotes.
