10/22 Scope mounting question
« on: January 25, 2013, 01:34:40 PM »
Does anyone here use quick-release rings on a Ruger 10/22 takedown?  I’m trying to come up with a solution for this:

I have a Bushnell 3X9 and want to mount it on my 10/22.  With the base supplied with the gun and medium high rings, the real sight interferes with the scope.  :bash:

One solution is a different base with more slots so I can move the scope just a little forward.  This will work, but it won’t fit in the backpack anymore!

If I use quick release rings of course I pop it off and everything stores away just fine.  BUT, will the scope really return to zero or is this a case of sighting it in each time I use it?  :dunno:

I don’t want to use the high rings and can’t buy another scope. I could take the rear sight off, but would rather not.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

Thanks,
carl

One thing to consider is the "eye relief" of the scope.  When you mount the rifle to your shoulder, and put your head in the normal place for you, you shouldn't have to move your head forward or back to get the full view through the scope.  If moving the scope forward doesn't affect the field of view, yes, it will work.
My experience with the removable mounts is that the zero will be close, but it never returns to the exact spot, no matter what the ads claim.  :twocents:
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"
