Outfitters for The BOB?
« on: January 25, 2013, 10:01:13 PM »
Dad and I are looming to do a wilderness hunt in the BOB either this year or next. What outfitters would you all recommend? I have read phelps story as well as pauls. Any tips or advice would be great. I am 41 and in pretty good shape,Dad is 70 and is in at least as good shape as I am. Not worried about putting the miles on the boots, just looking for a good outfit for what will probably be dads last hunt. Fill the bucket list and then done

after monday and tuesday even the calendar says Wednesday,Thursday and Friday.

I think Little John on here guides in the Bob.

Sportsmans show in Puyallup going on now...  There are a few guides at the show that guide in the Bob including the outfitter Paul went with.  Havent been myself but sounds like a trip of a lifetime. Definitely on my bucket list!

That is still like picking a contractor from the phone book. Hoping to get some real life referralls from a huntwa member.

I would definite go with the one that Jason Phelps went with, if they're not already booked up.   :twocents:

Kenzmad,
I am honored to recommend MONTANA SAFARIS.  This outfitter is hands down the best on the entire RM front (from Lincoln to Choteau) He has been in the business for longer than anyone else I know of (that guides the BOB) and is very well respected by all.  He has a variety of hunts early-late season and will accomidate any need.  He has a great website, look it up.  Anymore info PM me.  100% he will put you in front of one, the success is up to you.....

I HIGHLY, AND I MEAN HIGHLY RECOMMEND AGAINST FORD CREEK OUTFITTERS. FIVE OF US SPENT OVER TWENTY FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS TO HUNT WITH THEM AND NEVER EVEN GOT TO PUT A SCOPE ON ONE ANIMAL! THE GROUP THAT THAT CAME OUT BEFORE US WERE EXTREMELY ANGRY AT HAVING A VERY AWFUL SUCCESS WITH THEM. THEIR GROUP ONLY GOT ONE TINY BUCK. It was a nice expensive camping trip.

Ya. After a quick google search of them there seems to be a pattern of unhappy clients. They are not on my list.

kenzmad:  Check out their website & facebook link for the animals taken THIS year. Millswildernessadventures.             Ron Mills ( dad ) has been guideing / outfitting 50+ years. If you get Bugle magazine he had stories in two issues.
Sept/Oct 2012 Crash Course in the Bob is on the way to early hunt camp. Nov/Dec Horse Mountain story. General season
If you go to sportsmans show they are on isle 6. My antlers are at show for scoring. Just made B&C 375 4/8. I will be there sunday for contest awards at 2:00.

You got the wrong guy. There are two on here, one with a space between Little and John, and one without the space.

Kenzmad....one more thing to add to your list when checking out an outfitter
Look at BBB and Montana Outfitters Association(MOA) I have lived around this area and spent many days and rode all over the BOB (as a guide).        I know a few of these guys mentioned, but I would still go with Montana Safaris.......

Montana Backcountry Outfitters is who I went with last year and am going with again this year.  They exceeded my expectations and made my hunt truly amazing. Comfortable camps, great food and fun guides. I could have shot bucks everyday and a couple of them were great deer but I am a horrible shot. I did shoot a nice white-tail. I did have an opportunity at a 300+ inch bull but like I already stated, I am a horrible shot. I had no reason to shop around for a different outfitter.  Oh yeah I am not a horseman and there animals were gentle and very sure footed.
