First buck with bow
« on: September 21, 2008, 08:15:16 PM »
Here's my first archery buck that I shot near Winthrop Saturday evening.  My dad and I made three trips over there and I finally connected.  There seems to be far less deer this year and we didn't see many bucks at all.  I really wanted a buck and wasn't going to shoot a doe.

We hiked and hunted all around  the Twisp area.  Actually, we saw more bear sign than deer.  On Saturday afternoon I thought I would try to get permission to hunt a small property we had seen some does in before.  The owner said I could hunt but not to shoot the does.  Well, I didn't want a doe.  Anyway,  I came upon this guy and made a 40 yard shot through both shoulders.  He only went about 20 yards and piled up.   :IBCOOL:

funny you mention finding more bear sign then deer sign. thats how it has been everywhere i have hunted this year. almost all logs and stumps have been torn up, bark ripped off alot of trees, and almost any muddy area has had a few bear tracks.

nice deer btw. i wish my first and only archery kill would have been a buck. but i guess thats why i keep switching back and forth from modern firearm to archery.
