Elk w/Tasco white flash
« on: January 27, 2013, 09:42:04 PM »
I've had this camera out for about 2 months in this spot. Checked it today and finally got a couple of bulls, maybe three. I know where I'll be looking for elk sheds in the near future.

No, it's not wintering grounds.

These are non-migratory elk.

My apple supply is entirely depleted.

I'm thinking I need to pick up something from the feed store. Any recommendations?

I'm thinking COB? I've never used it before. Does it need to stay dry?

Nice, I really like the ones with the frost on the antlers.

IMHO there are no rules for cob except it attracts deer/elk.

OK well I guess I will pick up some COB at the feed store tomorrow after work, and dump it in a pile out there Saturday morning, along with a camera.

Hope the elk are still in the area.

I'm thinking they won't be dropping their antlers until next month? Anyone know? (These are low elevation Western Wa elk)

I think hay would last longer then cob in your area bobcat.  :twocents:

Thanks. That's something I hadn't thought of. Apples is all I've ever used.

So would alfalfa be the best or does it matter?

For elk use salt and alfalfa. Its a homerun. Get a 50# block of mineral salt with selenium 30 and its around $9 at your local feed store. Then get a bale of hay and tuck it under a tree somewhat and your set. Not that you have to but I always go to walmart and get a small bottle of molasses to pour on top of the hay. I cant wait to see more pics.
