I've never heard anything bad. I'm under the impression that they're one of the better taxidermists around. Seems like they've been in business forever- I'm thinking at least 25 years. I think their prices are also above average, but it may be worth it if you want quality work.

His prices are extremely high, for average to just above average work from what I've seen. The last time I called him he was literally double the price. I was friends with his son years ago. He does have a good reputation for those willing to pay.

I think there are better and faster ones out there.  Michelle is not far from there, you might check her out if you are trying to stay in the area.  Mark's Taxidermy down off Hwy 12 near Ethel is another sort of in that area.  Mark has backed off a lot but his son seems to do a good job.

My most horrible looking mount was done by Mark. Have a couple that look decent, nothing special and the one that looks absolutely awful, haven't been back since. Michelle does great work but lead time seems to be in the drain, and hasn't responded to my last 3 PM's... Michelle if you read this and for some reason haven't got any of them, please call me.

Alden is garbage. The buck in my avatar took 5 years to complete, the cape was swapped out too. When confronted he denied it totally. I guess he can sew up bullet holes and split ears without any sign of prior damage what so ever ?

I have only reclieved 1 PM from you and that was yesterday at around 5pm.  I just now got it.  I have not been able to get on HuntWa for over 24 hours.  So I havn't had a chance to respond.  I also do NOT have your phone number.

With the quality of mounts that members of this forum put out it still amazes me that guys continue to look elsewhere for taxidermy. Why not just use the taxi's from the site, its not like they do crap work or are priced too high.

I completely agree. Doesn't matter if it's birds, bear rugs or shoulder mounts ect.... There are some of the best in the business here.

I'd have to agree.   THey are willing to put it all out there for all to see.  The other interesting thing I wonder is why someone wouldn't be willing to drive a couple hours to get it delivered.   Its not like you'll visit it weekly, and you are going to look at this for the rest of your life.

 My buddy took a bear in to Alden's for a rug and the work was great but it took 2 1/2 years! $1400. I also have a friend that had a cape switched out on his buck. The buck wasn't that big but he loved cape (blacktail) and wanted it mounted. He had pics  and the whole deal and Alden still denied it. Garbage!

Never been a fan of Alden's.  They were the go to place back in the day but I have seen far too many mediocre mounts that have been done by them and have heard far too many complaints.  I've seen some pretty crappy euro's come out of there.  I would stick to the fine folks who frequent this site.  They seem to be more consistent and trustworthy, according to what I have heard and read about most of them.

Shouldn't be too hard to tell on a blacktail since there is so much color variation in their faces.

Sorry to hear that, The ones I've seen always looked good, but then they weren't mine.     He did a really nice job on a flying turkey for me as well as some ducks.

Charlie's taxidermy for deer & elk, Michelle nelson for bear, wtctaxidermy(I think thats his screen name) for your birds. Won't be disappointed with the work ive seen from these taxi's .

Not to jack this thread but I would not know if my cape was switched...wonder if Charlie will read this...

It was easy to tell, the thing had a double throat patch, ears shredded to hell, a 24'' neck. a head that looked like a mule. The one ear was split from tip to butt, it had a 257 Wby exit in the side of the face, unless folks can make repairs without thread, sew new ears on, shrink the hell outta the neck and face, and die the double throat patch, its not my cape! Thats a fact! I bet 20 different guys have looked at it, with that avatar pick blown up beside it, not even a hesitation, none, not even a second.

It was definately not hs cape, 100% sure on that one. Juds buck had a salamander neck and that ear that was split would not be repairable at all. Thing is you shouldnt mix capes up , as long as the taxidermist does there part . I Punch my capes with the customers number on the contract then I also put a number tag in the ear to be double safe .

Ya with his cliente, he wouldn't mix it up! His buddy needed one for a 158'' buck he needed re-done, drooled over my cape like a 15yo at a titty bar over it! Wouldn't be surprised if he didn't end up with it.

I used Alden's to do an Antelope about 11 years ago.  Did a great job but his price was high.  I use Charlie's in Tenino, does a great job and is honest.
