Kershaw Alaska Blade Trader

Anyone have and use this set? Any pros/cons?

Bought this set cause it was lighter and seemed to be better quality than my previous set.

Can't stand the blade traders... I have bent 2 of the locking devices rendering them useless. Never put side pressure on the blade, even if you slip and it is on accident, never and i mean never put side pressure on the blade...
Once it bends it is a pain in the arse. I just cary a saw in my pack and a blade on my belt.

Bought my dad the Gerber Freeman X-change a Blade for Christmas a few years ago and it has held up great.  The saw is a little small, but better than nothing.  Since we are usually close, we use the saw I keep in my day pack.  The blades are strong and we have had no issues except when he takes a blade out and sets it down instead of putting in the sheath and we lose it......

Threw a set away during a moose hunt, worthless and didn't hold up..

I bought that set thinking it was a good idea. But when I used the knife blade it kept falling out, darn near cutting myself several times. I agree with the side pressure, if you put any side pressure that blade WILL pop out. The saw attachment worked just fine for me. But overall I dont think its a very good design. I went and bought new knives just because I dont want to end up sliting my own wrists on accident.

friend baught one a few years back. let just say he forgot to lock the blade and cut the tip of his finger off. and it was the most usefull finger 

i personaly like them though i have never ownded the set. i have used them quite a bit with said friend and his shortened finger lol

I bought one for my dad and I. Last season dad shot a spike elk and we had to quarter it up and pack it out. The knife is very sharp and works great, but the handle as mentioned before is not so great when you put some sideways torque on it. Dads handle bent so bad it was unusable, and he almost lost a finger when the blade popped out. Had to finish the job with mine, very carefully. I do thank you for the reminder to send his back to Kershaw for replacement. wont ever purchare another one.

Wish this post would have been three days ago. I bought three of them for my boys and myself they were on sale for 24.00 and I thought a good deal.

buckhorn, my buddy bought me the set for my camper, good around the camp kitchen.....probably a little flimsy for game care like stated above...so,....not all lost....

Everyone in our hunting group uses that knife.  They have gutted, and skinned 6 elk and numerous deer without a problem.  Easy to sharpen, stay sharp, and clean up on them is easy.

I have had the same Alaska Blade Trader for 6 or 7 years and never had a problem with it,works great.

I was hesitant to reply after all the negative remarks. I have owned and operated one for the last 4 years. Never had a problem. Course I am not usually prying and putting a ton of side pressure on a blade when gutting a deer.  :dunno:You guys need to shoot younger, more tender, succulent deer

I have a set and it works fine, just like any tool though, you have to know it's limitations. I have a Chris Reeve when I need something super strong, but for cleaning game, I have found the blade trader to be great. They sharpen easily and clean up easily.

Do not get one of these.  They are garbage.  The idea is good in theory but as stated before the break very easily.  I would rather have one knife that does on jobe great and a couple other tasks avg than one knife that does many things poorly, breaks and cuts your buddy's hand
