BOWHUNTER45, those collars make an animal without antlers much easier to drag. When you get one down and have to move it a long ways, they are very handy. ;)

The cougar I killed not far from where they harvested these was also collared. Had a yellow tag on the caller  that said call wdfw before consuming meet.  I call and It takes three days for the sedative to wear off.  I shot mine on the third day.  What a waste of money by wdfw.  A cat is just as easy to drag by the tail.  You don't need horns.

Getting rid of those cats should save some deer but there are far too many more cats around and other cats will move in if there is an increase in deer numbers.
I think any cougar is a trophy and size only matters to the individual hunter. I would prefer a smaller cat if I was going to have it mounted. It would fit in the house better. The meat would probably be better too. Kinda like getting a young deer or elk for the freezer. Thumbs up to the hunters!

I just thought the collar made it way easier coming up out of the brush and over logs. After you turned your collar in, did you learn how far it had traveled? Mine was collared up on Bluett Pass and I shot it close to Kapowsin. That seemed like quite a ways to me.

Throw it over your shoulders and header out  :dunno: :chuckle: Why would you want to risk the chance of tearing up the hide if you wanted it mounted or made into a rug  :dunno:

WAcoyotehunter has it right about habitat management- probably the most important factor- a well-fed deer herd can sustain more predation (from us as well as cats etc.).  In this case, though,  I feel juvenile cougars (especially some so close to town) are not a bad choice for targeting with a hunt- they cause a lot more trouble than an older, experienced cat.
