Mission rifle tag help.
« on: September 23, 2008, 09:31:40 AM »
My fiance drew the mission rifle tag this year, and we have never stepped foot in the unit.  Anybody willing to volunteer a little info on the unit?  I do have some access to some private ground above cashmere and I plan to go scouting next week, but other than that I'm lost.  Thanks.

Your best bet is to find the land, and take scouting trip to get to know the roads.... that's a migration hunt so you won't be seeing nearly the deer that you will when you hunt in November... its a great hunt!!!  Good luck!

thanks, I plan on scouting a couple of times before it starts...are quads legal on the gravel roads up there?  They aren't around were I live, but it's up to the individual ranger districts and don't know about up there.

I don't believe they are legal, but you'd have to double check that.  I know they aren't legal in the Entiat units, but am not sure about the Mission units...  Sendin you a PM here shortly...

No ORV (motorcycle, quad, utv) is legal to drive on forest service roads.  It needs to be ORV endorsed to be legal on Green Dot (state roads).  I will pm you some info.

Where is the private ground above Cashmere that you have access and what is the acreage? That could be your best/easiest bet.

I'm not entirely sure where the private land is, I'm going up there to look at it next week.  The land owner says there is a few hundred acres that I can hunt, and it's all orchard land up against forest.

Private orchard land next to NF near Cashmere, that should be a slamdunk.  The only problem should be which deer to shoot.

It sounds simple, but you know how that goes....hopefully the weather will cooperate and bring the big guys down.
