Bobcat & other critters
« on: February 02, 2013, 01:20:55 PM »
Got my first bobcat pictures of the year. Just a few this time, it didn't hang around for long. I'll have to find some better bait. The hawks, skunks, and possums sure do like it. Got more pictures of hawks than anything.

Here are a few...

Beautiful cat! Could that be last years cat? Like I said before, get a trapping license and I'll lend you a couple cages!

What did you use for bait?

Elk bones and some duck/goose carcasses.

Yes, could be the same one. This spot is only a quarter mile from where I got pictures last year. I changed the location to where I think a cougar is more likely.

The hawks tail feathers look just like a grouse.

That's a sweet bobcat, very nice thick pelt, bobcat, back when I trapped I used deer heads for trap bait, I have no clue why the bobcats liked them so much, we caught 6 or 7 bobcats off of 2 different deer heads set not to far apart 5 of the bunch were big toms, we also would take beaver car us and put them in big glas jars and just let time break them down, let me warn you it stinks somethn awful, but it makes a great attractant, good luck to ya

I got some more pictures of the bobcat, and a coyote too. Just one picture of the coyote, they seem to be more camera shy than bobcats.

You'll notice these pictures are from a different angle. I switched cameras last weekend, and used a different tree so it's not quite so close. These pictures are with a Moultrie D40 instead of the D55.

I checked this camera after work this evening. Getting regular pictures of the cat still, and the skunks and possums as well. The hawks quit coming around, not sure why. But I'm glad, the camera only had 117 pictures this time, if the hawks had been coming there would have been at least triple that.

Well, you might remember, last winter a friend put a trap out there to try to catch that bobcat, and got a skunk. That was interesting, getting that skunk out of the cage without getting sprayed!

I'm still hoping for a picture of a cougar. I'll have to look at the dates from last year but I think it was late February when I got the cougar pictures, in a location that's less than 1/4 mile from this camera.

With the possums that are coming around I keep hoping for the cat to kill a possum right in front of the camera. This evening I put up another camera there, so I have two. One for pictures and the other for video. I'm even considering a third!   :chuckle:

Only thing I don't like about that idea is I stand to lost a lot if someone finds my cameras.
