We need a coyote contest!!
« on: September 23, 2008, 12:57:53 PM »
We should pick a date after all the seasons close that we can all meat somewhere, grab breakfast and have a little yote derby. It'd be a good way to meet each other and tell war stories. What do you think?

Since we're so spread out maybe meet at Ritzeville or Moses lake. Maybe even two meets, one west and one east.

Yes? No? Maybe?

I'd be down for that depending on when.  I have orders to a new base and will be gone in late November.

I would be down with that, even though I am a west-sider.  Would be great to team up with you guys and do some serious learning.

Man!!! Your leaving right when it's starts getting good. Hope it works out. I really don't start hammering them till December and January but I suppose it couldn't hurt to have it earlier.

Now we need a fearless leader to guide us and run this thing.

I know. Bad timing.  But I'm getting stationed in Hawaii so I think I'll live.  8)  I really want to do some night hunting before I go.

You talking about the new laws concerning public lands? Not sure that would apply. I'd assume east siders would hunt private ground and it says a permit is needed for more than 30 people.

Am I looking in the right spot?

i would be down to drive to the east for a contest, only use eletronic calls though not to good at reg. calling.  but only problem is the pass in the winter isn't to safe to drive across, no one would want an accident along the way.

personaly I hunt public land, but would like to get in good with a few land owners who have a yote problem. I would do it just to meet with likeminded dog hunters, have a good time and learn from others about this thing i have become addicted to. anyway just my thoughts on this deal.

I'd enjoy that. Even if it was just a meet & greet Coyote hunt! I've found a few spots in the Basin. (I'm heading to the Tri's to learn some more areas and meet some other members this time next week!!!) There's plenty of land in the Basin, public and private, for 20 guys to hunt for a day or so. (Pretty crazy to meet on the West side to hunt Coyotes!)

I'd suggest after the little ponds have iced up. Like the first week of January or so. Before the breeding season. They're hungry, but not "otherwise" distracted yet! Tons of fun calling in the cold!

The pass is sometimes bad, but if it's open, then it's fine by me. I hunt in worse driving conditions every time I chase the cats that time of year. 4x4, keep the chains handy, take your time.
