Cerakote question

So I am planning on having an AR upper reciever coated and wanted to know if having it coated will leave too small of tollerences inside the reciever?  For the bolt carrier etc.

Seeing that mil-spec parts aren't exactly held to NASA tolerances you will be good to go.

I may be wrong, but isn't Cerakote primarily an exterior coating on the gun parts--sprayed on with an airbrush and given a certain time to cure?  Never thought of it as a coating for wear surfaces...

This was also something that I wasn't sure about.  But the upper that I have is completely sandblasted currently, inside and out.  I was guessing that it wouldn't be an issue to coat the inside but wanted to be sure first.

Micro slick is a better choice for moving parts.....but cerakote will last a long long time if the media blast is not to coarse. As for clearances.....you shouldn't have to worry unless you are rhino lining it....they rattle for a reason.

Is it worth leaving the inside of the reciever uncoated?

   I don't think a light coat will hurt anything.  If the bolt carrier doesn't move freely, you'll know there's too much Cerakote someplace.

Where you having this done?

Well I was intending on having it done at Liquid Transformations here in Spokane.  But in the end I decided to do it myself and ordered  the other day.  Should be here end of the week.  In the end I decided that since I am only doing the reciever I should have way more than enough to do it over if I screw something up with it.  Lol.  With shipping it ran right at 50 and it was going to be 75+tax to have it done by someone else.  So if all goes well I should have extra for future uses.

What is your plan on media blasting? You said it had been done, but was it done with garnet, ao or glass......the answer severely affects the outcome.

This I don't know.  I can attempt to find out but I don't know if I can get ahold of the guy I got it from.  Explain to me the best option and why?

Glass will screw you. If it feels "toothy" and not overly coarse it is likely ao or garnet and will be fine. If it feels like a remington stainless rifle......no go.
