« on: February 05, 2013, 05:06:03 PM »
Hey, have any of you guys done a bear rug in this fashion, bear hide, white felt, maroon felt on bottom? I think that is what I want done on mine but would like to see some pictures. Or any bear rug with white felt in the middle.

I just got my brown bear back, I choose red on black.

White is going to get dirty really fast.

Here are some pics of mine, Forest green on black, hides dirt well.

The problem with White felt is that it will get dirty quick.  The is no way to clean it other than vacuum it.

Here is a thread that may be helpful to you.

kind of hard to see in this picture but i got black and tan. The black kind of makes it look a little bigger and then the lighter tan makes it stand out aginst the wall.

I think white over maroon would look awesome. The border would really pop! I wouldnt be too concerned about dirt if you are just hanging it on the wall. Make sure to use a high quality wool felt, not the cheaper stuff.

Thats what I was thinking, make it really stand out with the white in between.

I would second the black on green.  That's what I have and don't regret it one bit.

Depending one where he lives will also depend on how quickly the white felt would get dirty.  Especially if he lives near a dirt road.  That is the pits.

There is a felt that is out there that is an almost off/white marble.  I believe it is called sandStone.  Might be a better option to consider instead of the white.  If you would like to see a picture type in "Sandstone Felt" in the google search engine.

Is there a practical reason for the felt?  I am having a bear done and I think I would like to felt at all.  A downside?

Felt has multiple purposes.

1.  They add a frame to the Bear.  Gives it a softer edge.

2.  It aids in the hanging of the Bear.  All Bear Rugs should come with atleast 5 hangrrs, one in the head and one in each paw.  These suport the majority of the weight.  Once it is hung up you take flat thumb tacks and tack the back or bottom layer of fel to your wall about every 12-18 inches to keep it from sagging away from the wall.  The top or outside layer of felt hides the thumb tacks.
