I met a guy from Montana that found a flint spear point.  He intended to build a spear to go with it and hunt a cougar, presumably treed by dogs.  It sounded like a fun adventure.

Spears are illegal in MT too.  Not a lawful means of take.

Like others have said, it is illegal in WA. Several years ago someone posted a youtube video of them doing it in Pierce County. Didn't end up well for them...
please enlighten us bigtex, can you elaborate on this spearing that took place? i would like to hear more about it, hey smossy, i am right there with ya on the spearing thing, if you do a search you can see other threads that i have started about spearing a bear. i would love to do the same thing. back when baiting was legal, i got so close to bears all the time that i could see the moisture inside the nostrals of the bear, it was fun just to watch them, i had already killed a few bear and there is only so much a guy can do with the hide on a bear, i dont see the point in just throwing the hide away so i dont really hunt them anymore, and the meat is actually really good, especially if you kill a young one, and if you ever get to use a spear legally let me know, i know a guy that would do a damn fine job at videoing the hunt for ya  and one more thing to keep in mind, when you get that close to your quarry your adrenaline will do some amazing things and not always for the best
Cool man If i ever get the opportunity to legally take one that way, your in! That way If I get mutilated and eatin atleast someone will know what not to do next time lol.
