Yes, Kelsey definitely owns both stores. As to charging a restocking fee, that is normally only on returned items. Call him and ask if that is his policy. Maybe that is his way to make more off of the guns that are getting harder and harder for gun stores to get.

Splitshot, ever own a business?

Greed for charging a restocking fee if someone who returns an item? If more businesses would do this, then all the prices on everything would drop since they would not have to cover the costs of restocking an item. Restocked items often have packaging which is damaged and harder to sell, another loss for the business owner.

I wish more stores would charge a restocking fee so my prices for merchandise would lessen. People need to make up their mind before they make a purchase, not after.

Go to a Costco or Best Buy the Monday after the Superbowl and check the returns line.

People need to make up their mind before they make a purchase, not after.

My wife goes shopping, buys 10 items of one type, comes home tries them all on and takes back 8 or 9, lol.
I tried to tell that she should make up he mind at the store ............... she looked at me like I said the Pope was a Hari Krishna

My guess is that this guy ordered a gun, and then changed his mind and wanted something that was instockand he could have now. The shop owner probably couldn't cancel the order and now has a gun coming with no buyer. If this is the case then I completely agree with the shop owner andwould charge the fee.  :twocents:

Maybe I misunderstood but the way I read it he wasn't returning a firearm, he wanted to buy one off the shelf and they wanted to charge a fee to replace or "restock" the item. If he was wanting to return it he couldn't have went to another store and bought one without the fee and at a lower price... At least that's the way I'm reading it. Otherwise I completely agree, restocking fees are necessary in many industries and a special order firearm would be no different.

Let me help to put this to rest.....I just purchased (today) a firearm from High Mountain.  They did not and have never charged a restocking fee for buying a firearm off the shelf.  I enjoy the store (in Wenatchee) and know the staff pretty well, they are great to work with.  I suspect there is more to the story.

MikeW--

Your friend is quite confused.  We do charge a restocking fee but only in the following circumstances:

1.  You put a gun on layaway and don't finish paying it off

2.  You special order an item that you decide you don't want

3.  This is the big one which we have had to enact over the last 3 months.  Due to unprecedented amount of people tying to purchase guns who KNOWINGLY cannot pass a background check.  Basically, if you come into our store, waste our time purchasing a gun, getting all the details about it, run your background check and get denied because of something you in the past that caused you the right to currently own a firearm, we are going to ding you.

My staff has been instructed to help ANYONE with the denial process including Appeals and instructions to have your firearms rights restored.  If you choose to appeal or seek restoration of rights, we will not charge you a restocking fee, but will continue to hold the firearm until the process is completed.  If you are not willing to seek to get your rights restored or are not willing appeal because you "Know what they will say", then your going to get hit with the fee.    Trying to purchase a firearm when you knowingly cant and lying on a 4473 background check is a federal offense.  In this currently charged political environment, we are in desperate need of more LEGAL gun owners.  The last thing we need is someone trying to skirt the law to purchase a gun.  It reflects poorly on all legal gun owners and gives leverage to those who would like to take our 2nd Amendment rights away.

Maybe it would be a good idea for someone to come up with a "pre-approval" method. Similar to getting pre qualed for a home loan.
It is what you meant it to be...
