Duracoat Shake & Spray

I purchased my XDM last year and looked all over for one that had the 2 tone color but was unable to find one and had to settle for all black. So I decided to try out the Duracoat Shake & Spray and it turned out pretty good.  My only complaint is that he finish has a  shinier gloss than I was expecting. I guess that is what makes it so durable.  Over all it was a fun project and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is wanting to go a cheaper route to paint their gun. Next I want to upgrade with the Roland 460 conversion kit.

Looks good, is it slippery is it in your hand?

No it doesn't feel any more slippery than the orginal grip. It's just shiny. I wish they had a flat or textured finish in that green color. I think they do have some gritty textured finishes but nothing in the color I wanted.

Looks good!!  I may have to try this on M&P .45 it's all black but same issue I wanted two tone.  Have you handled the gun much since you put the coating on??   Shot, carried etc....  ??

I have not shot it yet.  The cure time is 3 - 6 weeks so I have a while to go.  I found out that they do have some flat color options and a soft sand texturing additive that you can buy. Guess I should have researched it more   Oh well, now I know for the next time.

Hmmm...this might be a good idea for my old XD....back when they had the crappy finish that wears off if you look at it too hard!

Is there a reason you did shake 'n spray vs. shake 'n bake?

They have more color options in the shake & spray.  Shake & bake is pretty limited in color options and they did not have the shade of green I was looking.

Duracote makes a flattening agent that you mix in with the color/hardener. I used it on my muzzleloader and it turned out pretty good. Would post pics but I sold it.

Looks good. I want to do this with one of my glocks. I watched a youtube video where a guy does a step by step video in duracoating a handgun with the MARPAT camo design and it turned out nice.

For the most part it was pretty simple.  The only challenges was the taping off of the areas I did not want to duracoat and then once I was done it took me a while to get the gun all put back together correctly. Thank god for youtube! I was able to find a very detailed video on how to put everything back together. It was kind of funny because the guys in the video were bitching about how difficult the springfield xd and xdm's are to put back together compared to the glocks.
