Trapper Training

Lacey Cabela's

Saturday, October 25, 2008

9:00AM to 4:00PM
Second Floor Conference Room

Many of you have gotten my pm's and some of you may have seen the recently deleted post, but it has finally been confirmed. I spoke with the event coordinator at Cabela's again today and he said it was a go.

Does anyone know if you will be able to take the test to get your trapper license during the training?

Thanks

Sure is something I'm interested in, but cannot commit at the moment.

Do you know if there's a cap as to how many people can attend?
I left it better than I found it...did you?

Here is part of a message that was sent to me.

All you have to bring is yourself and maybe a pencil.

So far, there is no need to sign up in advance. We have never had the problem of too many people attending a trapper training course, but you never know!
Thanks for spreading the word about this.

"At the end of the day, you will have your license"

Actually, at the end of the day you will have your trapper ed certificate, you will still need to apply to the WDFW Licensing office in Olympia (by mail or in person), and pay the $36.00 license fee.

*If you mail ANYTHING to the WDFW Olympia office, do so by certified mail, so someone in the mail dept. signs for it.
They are notorious for losing stuff.

There will not be a NWCO Certification course offered with this class, which has become a standard practice in other settings.
If you're interested, ask at the class, and/or contact George Brady.

Again, here is what I know.
There was a thread posted on another side about the training. I contacted the poster and that person is assisting in the training. I then contacted Cabela's a couple times to get it confirmed. It will be posted on their site in a week or so. I then contacted the assistant again and was told there is no sign up. Just show up and maybe bring a pencil. I know the room can hold quite a few people and I am sure the more people that show up the happier (and surprised) the instructor will be.

In the morning I will stop off at WDFW warehouse downtown, Oly to pick up a case of trapper training books and cards.

Any word if the real trap ban is going to be removed. I don't feel like being a problem animal remover for a bunch of seattle whiners, who voted to ban trapping, because a 'yote ate their fluffy or a bunch of 'rats dug into the levee around their million dollar homes on the rivers. I would love to try and run a line out here. I could use my little boat and get lots of beavers, 'rats, maybe a few mink. Man I miss that stuff.
Just because I look big, dumb, and ugly doesn't mean I am. It just means I can stomp you for calling me it.

I had a good time, it was a pretty funny class lots of people, around 35 I think. The highlight for me was probably the guy who's phone rang with Usher "let it burn" and then he told everyone it was his mom calling. It was probably too long for what it needed to be but at least I got it out of the way. Both the instructors were very nice people and I always enjoy walking around Cabela's. Anyways just thought I would let people know how it went.
