What teleconverter do you guys use the most? The 1.4x or 2x? I know I lose more light with the 2x but 800mm would be pretty cool.

Ive never tried the 2x with a 100-400 5.6, you may lose your autofocus, pretty sure you lose it after f8.

David,
I have a 1.4X and a 2X extender. If I need the extra reach with my 400 mm. lens I normally use my 1.4X because I am steady handed enough to hold it. When I break out the 2X extender I also break out my big tripod because I absolutely Have to use it to support the big combo to get a good photo. Besides that, with the 2X extender I loose my autofocus capabilities. :(

Anytime you add an extender it is a good idea to use a sturdy tripod to support and steady the lens, camera and extender combination.

I use my tripod all the time. I think I might just go with the 1.4. I dont really want to loose autofocus.
