Buffalo harvest ideas UPDATED WITH PICS
« on: February 12, 2013, 10:34:31 AM »
The wife told me she wants buffalo meat.  Anyone have a good idea on where to get one thats not to outrageously over priced.  Thanks for the replies and I found a place and booked it.  It was a blast.  I took a nice bull and he is going to provide great meals for months to come.  I made a 40 yard shot on him and he didnt go very far.  Radsav the exit hole was huge  :chuckle:  Just before we were getting ready to leave my brother decided he wanted some meat.. We spotted a lone cow and the stalk was on.  He made a 45 yard shot with my bow and filled his freezer also

There was a thread on here about a ranch out in E. Montana.  I think it was called the Crazy Woman Bison Ranch or something like that.  Prices seemed pretty reasonable if I recall.

It's called that; prices are 1500 for the bull (yearling) and then you have to pay for everything else or arrange for it to be done. They offer names and prices on their website and remember this would be a shoot not a hunt.

To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

Montana for a cow 2 year old was $750 two years ago...  My mind is slipping can't remember the farm, but it was owned by big bad old Ted and Hanoi Jane..

Check out your butcher at Fred Meyer. They used to have sales on all kinds of cuts about every other week. I don't buy meat at the store very ofter but I know it was reasonably priced. Good steaks.

The meat is under heavy demand because it's so healthy which is why buffalo has increased so much in price. At this price (which is very reasonable in today's market) a whole buffalo would be $3352.00. If you just want some meat these 1/8 buffalo packages are actually a pretty good deal. A guy from New York called me a couple months ago for some meat, he is paying $19.99 per pound at the market back there for buffalo.

1/8 Buffalo

10 lbs. boneless Roasts
 20 lbs. Ground Bison
 2 Filet Mignon Steaks
 4 Ribeye Steaks
 4 New York Strips
 4 Top Sirloin Steaks

$419.00
Shipping Included

Oh no we were not meaning that. Just going by what there site said and what you said. Did not know if they had some special going on or something not listed on there site since there is a huge difference in price. With it only being a month ago. I didn't see how they could go to up 5x the money on a cow and like 2x on the bull.

For sure we would never believe everything on the net. When it's on the owners web page that is why we would think to ask why the difference on prices.

Heck cheaper then beef at the price you got. I am going to have to give them a call. The price per head they have listed is pretty expensive. If they are still doing a hanging weight, I could see them being more reasonable as long as there price per pound did not go up to crazy as well.

Yeah cows were 3 bucks a pound and bulls were 4.  They had a few big bulls left but they would have been just out of my price range.  We keep everything including head and hide.

I'm interested in getting a buffalo this Fall..... did you have to do anything special to get the pricing?  Calling cold seems silly with the prices listed.

We went with Dale twice in Montana and had a great time and the meat is really good and lots of it. They skinned quartered it and we finished it up at home if we go again it will be with Dale he will make sure things are right for you.
