Ok, help me outfit this bad boy.  I bought this today at Quantico Tactical for $877.  After tax it was $922.  I get the $100 mail in rebate so I got a S & W M&P 15 OR, 5.56, for $822.  Which as we all know in today's market is just fricken awesome.  They had 7 left in the store.  Came with one magpul 30 rd mag.  So any suggestions on optics, sights, acessories, rounds (it's a 1 in 9 twist).  I'll be using it for yotes, varmits and home defense.  Thanks for any suggestions.

I'd start with a new hand guard maybe a quad rail setup. How about a decent scope with QR style rings so you can switch back and forth between a red dot or something for home defense.

Buy a magpul moe foreend then add blackhawk rails you can find at Walmart its cheaper than a quad rail

Look at a Larue QD mounting system and a Leupold 1.5-5 SPR illuminated, thats a great scope for defense and has a good reticle for 2-300 yards (yotes).
 I wouldn't bother with a quad rail but the Magapul parts would be good.
 The biggest would be to throw a good trigger in JP or Geissele.

If you want to save a little money and not go high-end.  I've put in several Rock River Arms trigger kits that I liked quite a bit.  You can buy them with a hogue grip for $90.  Turn around and sell the the old trigger group for $45 and then you are only out $45 for a new trigger and grip.  I wouldn't just buy quad rail handguards..  My suggestion would be at least something free-floated.  I'm not really a fan of vertical groups.  I find that I end up just using them as a hand stop.  I much more prefer  the Magpul angled fore grip.  If you want to go a little cheaper on optics.  You can get a primary arms red dot and then get a magnifier for it.  I think the combo goes for like $150.  I have one of their Aimpoint knock-offs and I'm a fan for the price.

Is it going to be a coyote/plinking gun or a zombie apocalypse gun? If the latter I would go with a large latch charging handle from a manufacturer such as VLTOR. If money is no object I would definitely add the quad rail and at least one pressure-activated light source. I have a Crimson Trace MVF-515G.  Bright green laser makes indexing your target too easy!  The green is so bright it provides enough ambient light in a dark house even if you don't use the flashlight. So I suppose one could go with a green laser only to save a little cash.

It's going to be more of a yote thumper.  I do want to add a Kill light 100 or 250, red lense, love the light.  I think I'll need a good back up flip front and rear sight and a decent scope.  The triger seems fine to me at this point, but then maybe I've never used a "good" trigger so I don't know what I'm missing.

Main thing I can say is get rid of that crappy straight trigger guard and get a Rock River Winter Trigger Guard.  ($15).  More room for a gloved finger in cold weather.  Scopes and mounts are a personal choice, but I prefer the one-piece scope mounts (like the P.E.R.P. mount, but you can get others for half the price), for their machined scope channels and strength.

Sorry I should have specified free floating for end with quad rail. As far as the scope mounting options I have two sets of the Leupold QR style rings and I really like them. I do like the one piece mounting options as well just don't have any at this time so I can't attest to them. Also depending on your scope mounting choice you may need to get a riser of some kind to make it comfortable to get the proper line of sight. I wouldn't go cheap on this, Yankee hill makes extremely nice stuff and the mini risers they have made for a perfect scope height for me. I tried a lower end one piece riser and couldn't get it to stay tight it was also way to tall.

I have a Nikon 3-9X40 with Leupold QR high rings Yankee hill mini risers and its perfect line of sight for me.
