Anyone ever hunt this area?  Looking for some good places to go for opening weekend in and around Winthrop.

Stick to the upper head waters, 5th and 6th creek, cub pass.

Just got back from that area.this is the 1st time in 4 years that ive gone a entire hunting trip to Winthrop and not seen a buck.Could of shot a few does,but I only buck hunt in the early season.Pretty slim.....

Same here - My Father-in-Law got a nice 3 point but that was the only buck that we had a chance at with the archery equipment. Lots of sign above 5th and 6th creeks but not much moving during the daylight. Pretty dry and crunchy - need more rain before the rifle opener.

The Cub Creek area is productive, get up high and let the others push them towards you. Keep you eyes on the thick stuff. The area gets hit pretty good, but if you watch most people stay within sight of the road. Watch out for Slow Elk (cattle) the last couple of years there has been a ton of cattle up there.

Everywere i went there was cattle.I know on the bear cr. rd. side my buddy has a cabin there and says that guy runs his cattle right thru private property to get to the range land.When he yelled at him.He told him he can do what he wants it free range land.......I guess he is quite the a$$ from what he said.

I tell you boys, this is the lowest population of deer I have seen in the Methow my entire life.

Its really bad.........I poked around a little this summer and the numbers are are around 7 bucks per 100 does if I were to guess :dunno:
