I called the Second Amendment Foundation. SAF OPPOSES HB 1588 My email to 97.3-Good morning,This morning on Luke Burbanks show, he had a guest on that misrepresented (I believe intentionally) the Second Amendment Foundation as supporting HB 1588. Which requires background checks on private firearm sales. You can reach the Second Amendment Foundation at (425)454-7012There is an attempt to make background checks sound like they are supported by the gun community. There is no way that HB 1588 can be enforced without requiring gun registration. We in the firearm community realize that historically gun nregistration is the first step to confiscation.Outlaws will not be effected by this legislation. This bill will do nothing to prevent crime.
This may explain supposed support for this bill by the second amendment foundation.http://www.examiner.com/article/firestorm-erupts-over-story-about-ccrkba-and-background-checks?CID=examiner_alerts_article
It’s been a wasted effort to contact my reps:While I am sensitive to the concerns of gun owners on many of the proposed stricter gun regulations before us this year, HB 1588 is a modest proposal that addresses the goal of keeping guns out of the hands of those who shouldn’t possess one. I voted “YES” for HB 1588 in the Judiciary Committee and will continue to support it with the hope that it eventually becomes law. You can track the progress of this legislation at http://apps.leg.wa.gov/billinfo/summary.aspx?bill=1588&year=2013. I appreciate that you took the time to share your concerns with me. Sincerely, Mary Helen Roberts21st District Representative
