A few decent Thurston County blacktails
«

Here are a few pics of some local bucks we got a couple years ago.
This first one was killed by my hunting partner, somehow I missed and before I could get another one off the buck hitthe landing. It was a nice wide 2x3 and field dressed over 150#.
The next two bucks were killed on the same day, but on opposite sides of the county.
My tall (barely) 3x3.
When I took my deer to our hangin room I found my Dad had a buck on the back of his quad.
Dad's 4x5.
It had been awhile since we last killed deer on the same day so we took a couple pics together.
Dad & I
Edited for typo.

Great buck pics. I'm going to have to dedicate a fall to that sometime. Usually if I have a tag still burning a hole in my pocket, I go east after whitetails. It would be fun. I used to hunt elk in Packwood, and always thought you could bust a bruiser blackie out of there as well.

Cool buck Coon, I love the bases with those stickers.
Very nice looking mounts. Thats what has me really interested in spring bear this year, I'd really like to do a nice full size bear or shoulder like that.

Bone- one thing I will say about open mouth bear mounts. Make sure it is what you really want. They look aggressive and cool (for awhile), but they don't really look natural. They look great on the classic bear rug, but unless you have another mount, plant or something, they can look a tad tacky in my opinion. I have two open mouth mounts and my wife has one with mouth closed. Hers looks the most natural.

Good advice and I agree. If I were to do a half mount or one similiar to what you have in that pose, I would choose the open mouth. The full mount I want to do will definitely be closed mouth, unless I put an elk leg or something in it. Nothing really shows off a bear more than a gorgeous rug though. I have one of them. If I get a color phase bear, it will be another rug probably. If I get a big black, it will go full size.

Nice bucks guys!
Here are a couple of my Thurston Co. bucks. I've got better ones and will post pics when I find and load them. The first one is a 21" 2x3 that was aged by a friend of mine from the WDFW at 7 1/2 years. He hardly had any teeth left. I tracked him to his bed in the middle of a blackberry patch and had to make him stand before I shot. He was well over 200 lbs.

Absolutely! My friend from the WDFW weighed him when he came over to check it out. It was in the low 170's hanging. He was well above 200 on the hoof. His body was bigger than my 4x4 bench leg from Mt. Adams Wilderness.
Actually I was kind of sceptical as well about post #1 with the "field dressed at 250#".
