Lyme Disease in Dogs
« on: April 02, 2013, 09:44:52 PM »
Has anyone here ever had to deal with, or know of anyone else whose had a dog with lyme disease? For the last couple years, he's had a bad limp (he's only 4 years old), especially after hiking. We've had him x-rayed for displaysia, broken bones, you name it. After spending $3000 at WSU vet hospital looking for a solution, all they could come up with was a tiny broken sesmoid bone in his toe. They didn't think it was what was causing him the limping and pain, but was their closest guess. Well, the surgery didn't help, so they just ruled it out as arthritis.

After doing some research recently, I found that Lyme disease in dogs (and humans) is often mistaken for Lyme disease, and that would explain why we could never find anything wrong in xrays and scans. It only takes 12-24 hours for the tick to pass on the disease, and I remember pulling a huge, nasty white tick off of my dog right around the same time the issues started. Going to go get him tested next week, but was just curious as to if anyone else has dealt with this before.

Has a torn, or partially torn, cruciate ligament been ruled out?

Yeah, we checked that too. One other thing weird about it, is that it's not always the same leg. Most of the time it is his front left leg/foot that he won't put the pressure on, but sometimes after a short run, he wont put pressure on his right front foot, which is why they are thinking it's maybe just arthritis.
