local gun dog training?
« on: February 25, 2013, 07:58:00 PM »
I have a golden who is 8 months old and needs to be trained for waterfowl. Does anyone know or is a dog trainer? I've looked online and found a few that I might go with but thought I'd ask.
Thanks

where do you live?
Canine County club has a good Lab trainer (John Cockren, I think).  It is located in carnation, Wa.

Acme hunt club 595 0166 Jim Lallas,I don't think he trains dogs but I know he helps you learn how to self teach. He used to train hunting dogs.Just operates the hunt club and has learning packages you can buy for X amount of sessions that include birds.

Conway Kennels is your best North End choice for training.

Sweetlou, being you are in Gig Harbor look into the Puget Sound Retrievers Club. They have leased land in Tahuhya/Dewatto area and will work with you to train your dog yourself. I do not know what extent you want him trained to but they have several folks in the club that have trained dogs through many trial types. I know I was out there a couple years ago for the retriever trials and there were dogs of all variety and skill level. I know they offer a field day once a month where several members get together and train. PM me if you would like more info.

Puget Sound Retriever Club has a training day this sat. 03/09 in Dewatto open to the public. They don't care what level your dog is at it would be a good place to find the info you are looking for.

It may be a late start for my dog (Chessie), she's 2 now. When is the best time to start training dogs to be good retrievers?

Hey Happy, who would you suggest, Jim Cochran or Conway?
