Mountain Lion eating deer
« on: February 25, 2013, 09:06:41 PM »
This picture is a few years old, but being new to the site I figured I'd post it. I found some fresh cougar tracks so I followed them, found a cached deer, ran home grabbed my trail camera, and over the next week was able to score 17 pictures of the cat. If people seem interested, I can post more pictures. Unfortunately every time the cougar is facing the camera his eyes shine.

Here are some more! The cougar has by now moved the deer. So I cleaned the lense on my camera and repositioned it.

Cool pictures.  I know trail cams sure catch a lot of pictures of these cats.  More out their than one realizes.

great shots and camera placement...how long did he feed on the deer?  nice job

The night the cougar killed the deer, the deer was gutted, the heart was probably eaten, and the deer was buried. The next morning I showed up and put my camera out. After my camera was put in the cougar fed for another 6 days. So I guess, my answer is 6 or 7 days.

In the pictures where he's looking up the hill it almost looks like his ears are starting to lay back a little like he was trying to scare something off his dinner. Did you get any other critters in the trail cam with that set? Nice cougar and great pics. We're always suckers for good trail cam pics.

Nothing other than some daytime ravens. Coyotes are real thick around here, they finished off the gut pile after the camera was pulled, so it could have been coyotes.
