draw weight versus penatration

First year for my daughter bow hunting. Shes pulling 45 pounds and drilling the block at 35 yards is this enough wieght for deer and elk

Penetration on big game is going to depend on broadhead, but the energy of the arrow as a function of distance needs to be considered. Need to look at her arrow weight, draw weight, and then calculate the energy at 35 yards.

You bettcha!  270 grain arrow is the min.  Its legal and strong enuff.  More is better but a good close shot at 45lb will do the job plenty well.  I think she can drop an elk at 40 yards no problem.  Shot placement is what matters.

Thank you her shots with a riffle are all over but with a bow she shoots like she was born with it cant wait

Use a good, cut on impact broadhead ( Montec 85gr would be a good choice) and look or holding out for that close to perfect presentation broadside. Stay away from shoulder bone and she will do just fine!

Minimum arrow weight is 300grs.

She will be just fine. I would really look into a good 2 blade broadhead or 2 blade with bleeders.

That will be just fine as long as her shot placement is good. That's the most important thing. Just work on that with her. I let my kids shoot deer after they can put 3 in a 4 inch circle at 20 yards, but you might have different reqs. Just get close and have a brand new broadhead on there. My 13yr old son put his deer down with a 42lb draw last season. No problem. Have a great time and I look forward to reading about the hunt.

I killed two deer with a 36lb recurve. One in 1968 and the other in 69. 30 lbs was the min then in WI.

45# pull, but what's her draw length? 

I will share my scenario.  I shoot 60# @ about 25.5" DL.  I was so focus on speed and was using 370 grn total arrow weight.  With this set up, I was having hard time getting good penetration on elks, even though I did harvest my share.  Then I decided to switch to 430 grn total arrow weight.  Almost all my shots were pass through.  Just some thing to think about.
