Wet Buffalo 3-d Shoot @ Tacoma Sportsmans Club
« on: February 28, 2013, 09:31:07 PM »
Who's going to be there & How do these things usually work?
Ive never been or seen a shooting competition.

Considering attending just so I can see how I shoot under pressure.
Seems like a good idea to see how It could kinda be when Im face to face with an animal. "Shooting in-front of tons of people."

Rewards? Do you use your own arrows, or theirs?

There isn't much pressure. It's like golf. If a group is coming up just let em play thru. I shoot alone allot of the time and groups just let go ahead of them. It's fun, but funnier if ya can get in a group.

You start when ya want so it very casual shooting. It's a trail system so your not in front of to many at all. Just the group lettin ya slide thru.

Interesting, Never would have thought that, How does scoring work? And again, do they supply arrows? Or do you bring your own, Id hate to lose some just because my range estimations were off :chuckle:

You bring your own arrows, I can't remember how hey score 3d it isn't complicated and they can explain it to you before you head out to the course. I usually just shoot for the practice since I am normally solo.

If your worried about losing arrows TSC has a rangefinder class. On the longer shots, guess first, range, shoot.
The scoring at TSC is-
Smallest ring(red)= X, used for tiebreakers only, not counted as 11
Medium ring(blue)=10
Large ring(white)=8
Anywhere outside the 8 ring, but above the belly line is a 5

Ignore the 14 and 12 rings, theyre not used in most 3d shoots. And remember, at TSC the 11 is counted as 10x. If two people finish with the same score, the one with the most X's wins.
TSC gives out pretty cool trophies as well.

No rangefinders at this competition. Plus I dont have one and am fairly good at guestimating distances.

Thanks for the scoring sheet. Still iffy about competing. Im shy to completely new experiences. I get nervous when even my girl watches me shoot lol.

There was a rangefinder class at every TSC 3d last year.
Maybe they got rid of it because nobody signed up?

Rangefinders are a problem at these shoots though. I dont care if youre just shooting for fun, but I see people using them on the second day when the score counts. I dont bring mine at all when Im shooting both days.
Two years ago at skookum archers there were a couple guys using rangefinders. They got second and third place, the second place guy slipped out with his trophy before anything was said, third place was turned in by a few groups but got to keep it anyway. Because of this my brother and a guy in his group didnt get a trophy. The main guy there gave them both a little plaque though. I got first and beat em without a rangefinder. Made it feel even better.

Its all about haveing fun and there is always people there with tones of experiance willing to offer advice! Come on out you will enjoy it and be waiting for the next one!

I'll be there  shooting for fun only. I've shot 100 of these and don't think I've ever turned in a score card.

My 16 year old nephew got a new recurve for Christmas and will attempt to beat me (I'm using a compound) at this shoot. I admire his goals  ;)

Yes, if we go with a group we typically will give all the cards to one "honest" person. Otherwise, someone is always trying to remember what he scored 2 targets previous, or someone is lagging behind, etc. Just have one person score, everyone else pull arrows and move along; things can get backed up quickly.

Hope to see you all there, we will be setting up the shoot tomarrow at about 7:30, we can always use a helping hand. I will be running the concession stand and the running elk both days. The running elk will have a novelty twist to it this year. Before the target is pulled you will have the opportunity to buy in on the novelty  for $2. There will be a 3 inch dot where the 10 ring is, if you buy in and hit the 3inch dot when the elk is running then your name will go into the bucket for the chance to win a brand new Rinehart 18-1 target. You can only do it once a day, but you have the opportunity to do it both days if you shoot both days. The name will be drawn on sunday at awards and you WILL NOT have to be present to Win. There will also be a WALK BACK STEEL target novelty shoot on Sunday at about 2:30, $5 buy in and the prize will be a brand new 3-d deer target.
