Bowfishing points
« on: May 09, 2010, 07:28:15 PM »
there are many great points out there. these are some of my faves that i have used a lot and have a place on my boat.
pic 1: these are both innerloc heads one is a 2 blade and a 3 blade i shoot higher poundage then most and love these points on my arrows they are hard hitting and i have found no points that hold the fish better then these.
pic 2: the blue arrow has a stringray on it and is another good point with good holding power the second is one of the most popular bowfishing points around the muzzy carp point it is a very good penitrating tip for lighter poundage bows but the holding power is not as great with the sharper wire points
pic 3: the top is another innerloc another good point like the muzzy and the bottom is a garpoon the garpoon is a great point as well the blades are locked back into place before each shot and open when it enters the fish but cane be a pain somtimes when you are in the fish to stop and lock them back.
these are the points that i use and like.

Great points.  Just for the beginners out there, don't go shooting interloc 3 blades also known as the grapple I believe, out along edgewater that has a lot of cattails. You will not have fun trying to get your arrows out all day and you may get the wrong first impression of the sport.  Open water where the bottom is not an issue or a rock bottom is present, you aren't going to have a fish get off unless it is a marginal hit which would have to be low belly or the tail fin!

very powerful heads with a lot of grip, and in milfoil they can be a bit of a pain to get out but i prefer not losing fish to taking a few more mins to get a arrow out. but most of my shots are not in any stuff that i can't get them out of. but a good point.

I haven't went bowfishing for years but it is a blast.  How often do you sharpen your points?

I like the two blade innerlocks as well.  It has been a long time since I have been out, but they performed perfectly and took a pounding.

It also is good to mention that you glue your tips on.  I know some people like the arrow to seperate from the head when fighting a fish, but I think it makes for an easier retrieve when they stay together.

yes, they are great. all my points are glued to my arrows as you can see in the pictures. maily the only time were it is good to have them seperate is on the big game fish or aligators only about 5% of the people shoot arrows were the heads come of for regular bowfishing because every shot turns into a long set of things to do before the next shot reasemble etc. about 80% of the time while aligator hunting is done with arrows that the points seperate, the advantage of this is to keep the arrow shaft out of the fight so it does not get tangled into brush and sticks and etc and make you lose you gator.

We just got back from the Idaho State Championship on the Snake River. The entire two days we were shooting into gravel or rock bars with basalt bedrock. I shot an interlock 3 Barb grapple and never busted a point all weekend. I did go through 5-6 tips but it was well worth it for penetration. They are the best you can buy and well worth their weight in gold.
