anyone have an old Prairie Chicken mount?
« on: February 05, 2013, 02:06:37 PM »
I photograph wildlife, and hope to go to South Dakota to photograph the Prairie Chickens on a lek.  I want to use a "decoy" so as to assure that some males will boom in the exact spot I have in mind.

What I am looking for is a mounted Prairie Chicken.  A hen would be best, but if all I can find is a male, then I will make do with that.   It will need to be a closed-wing table mount.  It would be better if it was a Prairie Chicken, and not a Sharptail Grouse.

I do not need a good quality mount, as this is just going to be paced outside in conditions that may be rainy and muddy.  And it might get "molested" by some of the Prairie Chickens!  I just need an old beater to stick out in the mud to try to get some chickens to walk over and check it out.

If any one has anything suitable for this purpose at a reasonable price, please let me know via email.

Thanks!

Just ask someone if they would shoot you a hen. skin it out and flesh it. Then use whitegas or a degreaser and soak it for a day to remove the fatty oils. Then rub Borax soap, make a body and saw it up. They have video's that will show you how. Birds are easy when they don't have to be pretty.
Boar looking for Sow to hunt with. LOL
