7mm-08
« on: September 28, 2008, 03:10:21 PM »
I just bought the wife a Remmy 700 7mm-08. Does anyone have any pet loads they would be willing to share? I'm leaning towards Barnes 140's but would be willing to try anything.

If you shoot it much at all, she won't have it long  :chuckle: :chuckle:  I have one I built myself, and it is a tack driver and weighs about 5 lbs. with scope, oh, and it drops deer like they were pole axed.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

I have had one for a couple of years 140s work great in mine .
7-08 is not that much different than the 7X57. An the 7X57 has killed a lot of game.
7mm-08 will handle Deer, Blackbear& Elk. I have read of a lot of guy's using them on antilope as well.

Look at the 139gr Hornady interlock. Cant go wrong with the 140 Nosler Partition eather. Look at loads using IMR-4350 or Reloader 19. Good luck, great choice! I bought my wife a Remington model 7 in 243. She has had great success with this rifle, but kinda wish she had a 7mm-08 so she can have a little more to tackle an elk if she ever wants hunts them.

Don't want to highjack the thread, so please start a new thread about your rifle build along with pictures. Sounds interesting!

Back on topic.... I love the 7mm-08! 120gr. TSX, 45gn RL-15, Fed 210M primers, Rem hulls gets me 3050fps from a 22" barrel Remington Ti

So far I've only played with 120's im mine. TSX's, V-max's, and NBT's all over RL-15 with a CCI200 primer

You guys that shoot a 7mm-08 need to try IMR4007ssc powder.
It has become my go to powder for most calibers from 22-250 to my 338-06.

7mm-08 and the 260 are both cals that I wouldn't mind owning.  Since I have a 280 I'll probably forego the 7mm-08.

I would expect that your choice of a 140 TSX would be an excellent performer out of your 7mm-08!!!

120gr. TSXs are outstanding in the 7mm-08.

Put a 140 gr Partition in front of 45 gr IMR4895 or 45 gr IMR4064 for flat shooting loads with low recoil.  They both chrono at 2940 fps out of my Browning Stalker with a 22" tube. Both are deadly deer pills that are among the highest velocities I have found with this weight of bullet. Accuracy will depend on your rifle.

My son has been shooting a Ruger for 4 years now and it performs great.  A great youth caliber.  3rd deer this weekend out of 4 hunting. Double lunged, went 15 yards and tipped over.  We shoot the 140 gr and it has knocked em all down.

I have a Win. mod. 70, Youth. I don't shoot much, so for now I shoot factory loads. Rem. Corelocks 140 gr. work very well. It's a tack driver. I head shot my buck last year at 225yds and had a extra doe tag, head shot her at 150 yds. My girls shoot it and love it. And hve taken several deer with it, a lot of them in the head also.
