Getting pumped for Turkey season!!!
« on: March 04, 2013, 11:15:41 PM »
Broke out the Primos Truth Turkey DVD's last weekend and the Tactical Tater vest and started getting myself pumped up for the season to start.  What are you guys doing to get stimulated for Gobblers?

Thoughts of turkey hunting have been brewing in the back of my mind lately, but I have springer fishing taking up most of my day dreams! Once I bonk a few slickbacks on the lower Columbia and indulge in the finest eating salmon that swims my thoughts will shift to turkeys full time. Plus springer seasons ends 4/5 this year, that will give me just enough time to transfer over.
Fish hard, hunt harder!

I have been off of work for the last 4 weeks due to a torn ac in my right shoulder so to say I am getting amped up for turkeys is an understatement!  Its all I think about in my extreme boredome.  My day pretty much consists of running the dogs and myself and then drinking 2 pots of coffee while sitting on the floor in my turkey vest watching turkey vids on youtube!  Then every few days I wonder down to Cabelas and buy a new reed or something minuscule.  I also put a new paint job on the shotty!  Man I can't wait to go back to work!

I have been driving the neighborhood crows nuts with my locator calls and have been driving myself nuts trying to decide which new dekes to buy.

Just me but you might want to put a barrel and a stock on it or you won't even have to worry about it being too green. :dunno:

First year I'll be trying a bow.  Never done this before but looking forward.  My kid and I are trying to get in as much practice as possible before we start off with youth season.

I've been giving myself cabin fever with all the research it takes to hunt Eastern's on the wetside. I finally got out with the wife and did some scouting. Mostly when I'm not scouting I'm thinking about scouting. Heck, even when I am scouting I'm thinking about scouting.

Stove Pipe Kid -

My first year I scouted for every Saturday and Sunday from before dawn until after dark for 1 month before the opener. But opening morning I was where I needed to be to have 3 huge Eastern toms come in to less than 10 yards.  It was a lot of work and tons of shoe leather, but was totally worth the time and effort.

Good luck with the "Wetside Phantoms" ... may the turkey gods be with you!

I'm also pumped for Turkey season. I've put away all the coyote hunting gear, and busted out the turkey decoys and started practicing my calls.  This will be my 4th year going, and still havn't killed one.  :bash:  But sure love trying.
