Why I swear by thunderheads
« on: March 06, 2013, 10:39:42 AM »
My first buck with a bow, 1987, Obviously I hit a little high, but it worked.
The Thunderhead stayed completely intact...Have used em ever since.

Yeah, well Chuck Norris wouldn't have needed archery gear, he would have just punched it in the neck.

I have never seen an animal drop straight down as quickly as this guy did...It severed the spinal cord.
At the time I was new to bowhunting, I made a bad shot and now had a perfectly alive(but paralyzed) deer at my feet which had to be dispatched. It felt wrong to shoot it again with an arrow at point blank, so I "old schooled it" with a knife to the throat. NOT FUN, but neccesary. I learned alot about bowhunting that day.

This was 25 years ago...I remember the wasp's from back then...they would have exploded on impact. JK
Your right though, if it works good for you, stick with it. I've taken 24 deer, 11elk, 2 bears all with T-heads since. Happy  :archery_smiley:

I've been using Thunderheads for years as well, never had a reason to change and they are going to look good flying through the air with a lighted nock following behind this year! :chuckle:

I swear by them too, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

In my opinion an arrow to the heart and/or lungs at point blank range is much better than a knife to the neck. Safer, less messy and even more humane in my opinion.
If needed, put a finishing shot center chest and walk off for 10 minutes. Just my 2 cts. Other than that, congrats.

i shot my deer bedded looking strait at me this year with a muzzy mx3 and it went thru the neck thru the spine and stopped about an inch on the other side of the spine inside the body cavity shoot 340 ics hunters thru my maxxis 31 with a 27 and a half inch draw that deer didn't take a single step from where he was bedded! i have also head shot 1 before with the same set up he dropped like i shot him with a rifle and my arrow stopped at the fletchings from 30 yards needless to say i like the mx3 muzzys the best for fixed blade broad heads

Were you trying for a head shot? Or was it an accident?
