Canon EOS 5D Mark III
« on: March 07, 2013, 11:32:23 AM »
anyone got one?

I want to get into outdoor photography, bit of a noob at this high end camera thing.

I know the lens is where it's at, but I want a camera that's going to last a good while too.  I doubt I'd replace it within 5 years unless something came out I couldn't live without.

I also want to fart with HDR

I say if you can afford it, go for it
Cost is the only reason I do not have one yet.

BTW, a fart in HDR  :dunno:

Excellent camera that will last you several years. It's a full frame sensor so you will only be able to use L series lenses, which is a good thing, however they are not cheap.

The ISO settings are incredible and noise reduction is as well. If I were you I would start with a 50D or comparably priced body until you have the relationship between ISO, Shutter Speed and Aperture down pat, then sell the 50D and buy the 5DIII, it will have dropped in price by then and save you a few extra bucks to put toward more glass.

Of course if you have the coin then by all means knock yourself out. :twocents:

I'll probably take your 50D advice, I tend to go overboard on everything from the get go  :chuckle:

Excellent advice from huntnphool.

Use the extra $ for L series glass.  You won't be disapointed.

Some excellent advice from HuntnFool about maybe starting with something like a 50D, then buying a 5D3 when the prices drop.  I think the price on the 5D3 is at it's peak now, and will certainly drop over the next year or two.  But, if money is not a big issue for you, then getting the 5D3 now may be the best choice.

There are actually quite a few lenses that will work on the 5D3 that are not L lenses.  In fact, according to my latest copy of the B&H catalogue, Canon makes 12 prime lenses that are not L series lenses and 7 zoom lenses that are not L lenses - and all of these will work on the 5D3.

Only the EF-S lenses will not work on the full frame bodies, and there are only 10 of them.

I chose the 7D over it.   Crop sensor/ built in flash/ but mostly frames per second were things I was looking at. Oh yeah, cash had something to do with it too.

Or if you must insist on full frame, get the 6D at half the cost.  I'm thinking real hard on this one, upgrading from my 20D.

The 7D is a nice camera too but tends to have a lot more noise at higher ISO settings. :twocents:
